I found that in d1 if all you care about is the gear you will become bored quickly. Despite the gear limitations I find d2 more fun because I am enjoying farming up bright engrams, shaders, various armor sets, etc. I for one have had a lot of fun just using finding different gear combinations for styles I like. On my hunter I've got 3 different gear sets I change into depending on the subclass I want to use.
I enjoy pvp, I enjoy running strikes with my clan even if there won't be any good drops. I enjoy trying to go flawless on trials despite not being that good. My clan is in the process of blind running the raid and it's been a lot of fun.
If all you care about is purely light level and new gear then it will be boring fast.
On my hunter I've got 3 different gear sets I change into depending on the subclass I want to use.
That's a great idea and one that I think I"m going to try for. That will give me incentive to grind out the different locations and to equip the particular mods and shaders that I want to use.

Each with its own look and style. I'm particularly fond of my solar set. Cape, boots, chest of optimacy, pacific gloves, all with raid shader. Celestial nighthawk with monochromatic. I look sexy
