Alright, take a chill pill, I’ll stop calling Hunters selfish

Original Post [spoiler]Outside of the Nightstalkers Shadowshot, Hunters are rather selfish. Titans can create shields, Warlocks can create rifts, but Hunters have a fancy dodge that reloads their weapon? I feel like they should have put more thought into that rather than focusing on Hunters being these self-centered assassins. I’m sorry if this comes off as another complaint in the sea of bitching and moaning that this game has created. It’s more of an observation [/spoiler] Edit: Man some of you are being awfully defensive about this. It’s also as if some of you just read the original title and went on a rant. I addressed the Nightstalkers orb creation. And if it seems like I implied that Hunters are at all “useless” as teammates, my bad. That was not my intention. Also, these are observations based on my playing the game thus far, as I have noted. I was not trying to throw stones and start a damn class war here.

  • Lol hunter is my favorite out of the bunch, I play all three, And they clearly all have a role to play, people just don’t value the hunter cause we don’t “do much for the team”. Besides I don’t know, poop out orbs for other people’s supers to use on OTHER ADDS NOT BOSSES. Sorry some people don’t know how to be a team player and keep the supers running. But anywho, how I see it arcstriders are in the fight front lining for the fellow hunter classes adds are strong suit for him/her, golden gun oh the beauty she is, great burst damage. Depending and has a nice chain of Woe buff. Nightstalker, man I’m just sad we’re so undervalued especially us pathfinders, I mean for god sake IF YOUR DYING RUN FOR COVER YOU JUST MAY GET CLOCKED FOR YOUR PROTECTION BUT NOOOOO PEOPLE JUST LOVE HOLDING THE FREAKING TRIGGER CANCELING OUT THE CLOAK! But that’s none of my business. I’ll have another cloak ready to revive you even though I had to waste my wonderful dodge to save you. Did I mention we poop out orbs and give a nice buff as you go in with your supers to live that much longer? It’s called heart of the pack for a reason. I don’t care what anyone says hunter is MVP for me as a team player but that just my opinion

  • The dodge has gotten so much hate. I like it way more than the rift and titan wall. Also, hunters, and fireteams in general, aren't made to stick together at all times. Hunters are fast so they can move in and out of the fight with ease to take out isolated targets

    • Working as intended: Titans provide overshields and barriers for hunters. Warlocks provide healing and buffs to hunters. Hunters use the benefits provided by their subservient minions to wreck enemies. Its the natural order of things.

      • As a Titan main, I would take a good hunter on my fireteam over a good warlock any day. A good hunter is the "oh shit" handle in your car. It's going to be there when you need it, it's going to do it's job, and it's going to do it reliably every single time whether it's killing a specific target or doing a swift stealth res. The Titan is the airbags. If the Titan is doing his job it's because you're already in a bad situation. He can save the team, sure, but just that one time due to cooldowns. The warlock is the manual transmission. A good warlock will control the pace of the battle by thinning out enemy numbers and buffing the team when needed. The problem is most warlocks can't work a clutch and don't know how to rev match their downshifts. "Stormtrance! Oh, it's just one guy left." I'd rather have the "oh shit" handle to reach for than a stick shift most people don't know how to use.

          • You say hunters are selfish but when you need orbs for your super, a gunslinger or nightstalker will be there. Also hunters have the highest single shot damage super in the game (celestial nighthawk golden gun). I would say hunters are pretty generous if you ask me

            • People take things so personally. You aren't a hunter. You aren't a titan. You aren't a warlock. You're playing a game as those characters. People take comments like these seriously as if they're attacking their own personality. Madness.

            • Please hunter children, don't act like your team support even compares to titans and warlocks, Locks can do Insane dps almost as well as a hunter WITHOUT an exotic, they clear Ads better and can heal and boost dmg better than you. Titans have better team protection,better reloading options than hunters (rally-cade) generate monstrous amounts of orbs too (sentinel) have better add clearing ( striker, sunbreaker) and have better solo potential, PvP and PvE.

              • You are right. Hunters are finally at the bottom of the food chain. Shadowshot doesn't kill on hit and tether still takes 3 years to activate. It also doesn't track. The only good dodge is the invisible one on nightstalker. It's fine though. We have clutch potential seeing as how our abilities are focused on 1v1 and are mobile instead of AoE effects that stay in the same place.

                • I think we can agree that its better to see 2 warlocks or two titans joining your strike team, Over 2 hunters. PvP, different story, I love seeing hunters there, but in PvE its just feels like I and the other titan/warlock have to work to hard to keep him/her alive long enough to get the work done. ( P.S, this is also a much different story because this is D2 not D1, in D1, hunters were everything, without one, everything was awfully harder, now not as much.)

                  • Hunters should be put more as a assassin and a flanker, they still have the tiler as a warlock and a Titan but not as good as the role, bungie should try to buff they versatility and something for assassinations

                  • Hunter is my favorite. I agree that the d2 all around rebuild of everything is much mire team up and support. And I hate to see that hunters have so little support utility. I've always mained hunter. And it was frustrating seeing them get nerfed over and over in d1 and seeing some of that carry over. Even exotic nerfs. Golden gun doesn't penetrate. Poledancers are good for add clearing but medium at everything else. Shadowshot almost needs Orpheus to be amazing. It's still my main. I run all 3 but nothing feels as rewarding as hunter. Most skill based. I dread seeing nerfs coming. I'd rather see buffs to balance. But hopefully they don't mess with much. I want to see something supportive from the hunter. Maybe marksman dodge drops a random ammo box.

                    As a die hard D1 hunter and followed with D2 hunter, yes we are selfish while being selfless. D1 Selfless Hunter: Bladedancer Stealth spec: a must have in any raid (at least 1) you can literally revive the whole team. If it's heroic raid, not nearly if at all favored though. Selfish bc we go stealth to save our own ass... selfless because we just revived 4 ppl and the 1 sun lock selfrevived (and died again then got hunter revived) D2 selfless hunter: NIGHTSTALKER!! Spewing out 40 orbs a nightfall or strike. Managing any public event on your own because (ORPHEOUS RIG) you shadowshot and kill 15 enemies at once and reset your ult... all the while the lock that isn't shooting yet has 5 Ults worth of light on the ground... or by B-B into stealth and revive.. or other spec by using bomb into group stealth passing by enemies .. Hunters are like half lock half Titan, they half way care about their team and they half way wish they could just throw a barrier up and dance

                      I agree, what if the dodge also reloaded nearby allies? Unfortunately that would be "op" in the crucible.

                      • I went home for lunch today, fired up D2 after I ate and went 13:1 in Countdown. My fellow Hunter CIABlackBear was also cleaning up. Dunno how you can be a better team player than carrying your team to victory.

                        I think all classes should have a baseline dodge mechanic and Hunters get a different class ability like a scavenger pack or something that allies pick up and it provides ammo or grenade/melee energy for the team

                      • I just think the Dodge needs a speed boost OR chance at health regen after completing the dodge. I'm reminded of the fat roll from Dark Souls otherwise.

                        • I just don't see what titans add to this game anymore. A shield? Big whoop. Every time I say that someone say yea but you get two great grenades. -blam!- grenades give me back my blessing and weapons of light from the warlocks.

                        • I only use the single Shadow shot anchor in pve, so all I do is support. I never get the satisfaction of killing giant groups with the activation of my super. Granted killing 1 of the tethered enemies tends to make the entire group explode, but it's rare that the kill is from me and not from a fire team member.

                            What!? Way of Outlaw boosts nearby allies' reload speed by scoring headshot kills. Way of Sharpshooter generates super faster by hitting headshots and generate orbs by doing the same with the Golden Gun, there by speeding up the rate allies get their supers. Best part: Killing is not required to achieve any of this. Nightstalker as a whole is a team player who will always weaken the enemy allowing players to hit headshot damage regardless of where they actually hit, even on enemies who have no weakpoints. It also generates orbs by tethering enemies. Way of the Trapper extends bow's tether duration and extends their reach. Way of the Pathfinder boosts allies' stats, can cloak allies, and generate even more orbs by killing tethered enemies. Arcstrider? . .. .Way of wind can stun enemies if they punch enemies. And in PvE, stunned enemies do not fight back. In PvP, they can't rotate, which is a VERY bad thing for the enemy team. But yeah totally 'selfish'. MHMM yup. Yup. YUP. BTW Way of infinite combo is the selfish one.

                            • The biggest bonus the class ability grants hunters is the melee refill for invisibility, hunters can save a wipe with it. Hunters have 2 PvP classes or solo classes and 1 fire team. So it does kinda make sense that there is no team benefit in gunslinger and arc strider, its not what the classes are for. This was the single biggest complaint next to the golden gun and blinking in D1 when it came to hunters. In my opinion hunters shine as DPS dealers. They can put out the most damage and have strong area control, and if you use the dodge correctly you will have infinite melee and dodge energy especially with arc strider. I can punch my way through tier 1 and 2 mobs better than Zavala(Zevala?) But we can't bring the team much help in buffs, we use our invisibility to prevent wipes but otherwise yeah hunters don't like to share.

                              I will say our dodge is useless compared to the utility of warlock and titan. Nightstalker lost 50% of its utility and god status when they decided to bring back those GOD AWFUL TRIP MINE GLOVES INSTEAD OF THE 2 INVISIBLE GRENADE ARMS. Yeah good choice bungie
