Halo vs Metroid: The Flood vs X-Parasites

The Flood

51

X-Parasites

20

Not your most conventional sci-fi battle, but one I recently thought up having played both Halo and Metroid recently. I though since both species played similar roles, this would be an interesting fight. So who do you think would win, the Flood from the Halo universe or the X-Parasites from the Metroid Universe? If you can, give reasons in your comments. My thoughts: [spoiler]Both organisms have many similarities. Both infect a host, and then transform it into a different form to spread the infection more quickly. Both are highly adaptable and assimilate information, knowledge, and other attributes of infected beings into themselves. Overall I think the X-Parasites would win, as they can infect any organic matter if I recall correctly, while the flood can only infect species with a centralized nervous system, which means in theory that the X-Parasites could infect the flood. Flood vs X-Parasite? Flood. But Flood vs Metroid? Metroid. Which one is more powerful though... probably X-Parasite.

        • The Flood would win, just like Halo wins over metroid.

How about the flood vs the apariods (Starfox Assault)? Not only could they infect living things, but even machines. Both were bent on the destruction/assimilation of all sentient life. Never played a Metroid game so I know nothing about X parasite

            • Well, from what I've read, the x-parasites have a natural enemy. The flood, however, does not. The only known way to kill the flood was with the halo rings wiping out all sentient life, but if I remember correctly, the flood even survived the firing of the rings once.

              • Well I've never played Halo so I know virtually nothing about the flood. But I do know the X parasites have no known weakness other than metroids. And I know they have the ability to infect pretty much any living thing. Which makes them stronger in the process like you said. They also reproduce similar to cells splitting off through mitosis. So unless the flood has something to counter that, I don't see how they could win

                • It depends on what faze of infection the flood are on, if they have multiple grave minds the would surely learn the parasite's weakness.

                  • The X-parasites' only natural predators are metroids, because metroids are the only lifeforms capable of absorbing them without being infected. The Flood is dangerous yes, but they'll never manage more than disrupting the x's mimicry.

                    • I mean, is this even a competition? The X's only predator are Metroids. If the flood can't destroy it then how could it lose?

                      • X-parasites. One major advantage they seem to have over the Flood: X can reproduce asexually, without needing to feed like the Flood. The original SA-X had reproduced, leading to about 10 SA-X being on the BSL ship along with Samus by the end of Fusion. What genetic material was left for them to eat after Samus got there? By the time she'd gotten to the ship, it had been essentially completely overrun by X; everything she encountered was an X copy, not an original organism (except those cute animals she saved). Unlike the Flood, the X don't seem to work in a collective; no hive mind. Individual X seem to be independent. In this respect, the Flood could seemingly achieve a greater intelligence, as any intelligence absorbed is added to the collective, whereas an X is only as intelligence as the amount of things it has absorbed. But what it really would come down to is which one is more infectious, and which one could infect the other. Given that the X were able to replicate plant materials, I agree that they don't appear to be restricted to only infecting things with a nervous system. However, upon replicating an organism with a nervous system, theoretically they should be susceptible to Flood infection. At the same time, I feel like a single X could absorb and replicate a single Flood infection form, then that X would essentially gain the Flood's hive-mind-forming capability. It's a tough call. Want another mind--blam!- scenario? Who wins: the Flood & Gravemind or the Necromorphs & Markers?

                        • From what I can remember about the X parasites they're not very smart whereas the flood seem to be very intelligent. I feel like that could give them an edge over the X parasite.
