Obviously it's all about personal opinion and what you find fun. In D1, even though I'm a fairly 'casual' player when it comes to intensity, I quite enjoyed taking my time with a team systematically working my way through a nightfall. The timed aspect has really taken the fun out of it for me. Too frantic. Too easy to ruin with a few errors.
I guess it's because I play games for 'fun' more than I do 'challenge' and that's why I don't find the rush aspect fun at all.
Just some feedback. I know players who play for challenge will like it, but timed aspects to games or missions has always felt like 'artificial' difficulty added on if you know what I mean.
***Edit ***
As per a lot of people's great ideas, a tiered system would be great. Either one nightfall where running out of time gives bronze rewards. Within a certain amount of time left gives silver rewards and with a lot of time left, gold rewards.
Other option is 2 nightfalls, regular version with no time for decent rewards and a timed version for top tier rewards.

I wouldn't mind timed Nightfalls if instead of kicking you back to orbit when the timer runs out, they just rewarded you for beating the timer. Kinda like what they do with M+ in WoW, you have a timer, if you miss the timer you still finish the dungeon but with the lowest rewards and a key downgrade. But if you beat the timer you have a chance of extra loot and a key upgrade (difficulty upgrade) with a potential of even better loot. It's the easiest solution to suit everyone, people who want a challenge can push themselves for potentially greater rewards by beating it ahead of time and people who want a more relaxing or "get the nighfall out of the way" atmosphere can do so.

Git Gud.

agree 100% timers feel like an artificial way to increase the difficulty. hell, I miss the original nightfall that would kick you to orbit if you wiped.i found the difficulty and methodical, careful, suspenseful approach fun. timers don't make it more challenging, they just make it annoying.

The average time it took to complete the inverted spire strike for my fireteam was 21 minutes. The nightfall starts you with 10ish maybe adding a few minutes would help?
-
Also I just want to note that I enjoy and have a great time with challenging missions. So don't give me that, "but it's suppose to be fun excuse".
-
The same people that think it's adds challenge to PvE complained frantic play ruinedPvP and killed off special weapons.
-
If you don't like the challenge then you have an option. It's called the strike playlist

Edited by rangerwolfe: 9/17/2017 5:13:55 AMI just wish there isn't a an exotic weapon requirement for most raiders to have through Leviathan. Like come on now, I just want to, not have the same exotic weapon 3 or 4/6 people have, makes it feel like a chore and get baited to do a raid only for the RNG to say come back next time.

My group found it fun and rewarding to figure out how to maneuver the rings element (clear waves then rings, skip the entire section etc). But that probably only works once.
-
I like that they are trying something different with the nightfall but it can be quite annoying running out of time.
-
Especially don't make it every week for every Night Fall. Fun occasionally.
-
I thought nightfalls took too long in D1. I had friends "casuals" who hated the fact that a certain nightfalls might take 30 min to an hour and we're instantly turned off. I like the fact that nightfalls are timed, it adds a different element to nightfalls (doesn't necessarily mean more challenging) and some of my less than average players were happy with it.

Bungie's idea of fun tends to be asking players to stick their dicks through a meat grinder. If you start to wonder why you're bothering, you're going to quit. So if the rewards are not significantly worth the effort, then why bother.
-
To some the challenge is fun! I understand some people don't have or like the challenge, I was like that too, but when you find easier methods to do strikes, you'll end up feeling like, I need a higher challenge, the new night fall modifier is the best thing and is really fun.
-
I agree. They just have to put the time like an objective. Like if you do it in less than 40 minutes you have a chance to win one more legendary gear or one exotic gear. Sorry for my english i'm french ;p
-
The timed option should be in the prestige version tbh. The fact that we have to rush through a strike without enjoying it kind of ruins it for me.
-
I wish you had the choice of timed or not, shoot I'd even say go ahead and give higher rewards for those who choose timed but give us the option whether we want to run a challenge or extreme challenge...

If anyone is interested in taking part in my poll here is the link https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/231586590?page=0&sort=0&showBanned=0&path=1 i am curious how many people hate timed nightfalls versus like them.

The challenge of the nightfalls in d1 gave way a different sense of accomplishment. Like, you succeeded without wiping to orbit. Doing it in a limited time, bleh. It was a cool idea to revive d1 at the end, but they could have done something different with d2.
-
I miss the elemental burns that would switch every week, prism makes them more easy, not to mention the strikes are quite boring in destiny 2.
-
Bring back you wipe and get kicked to orbit.
-
I was trying nightfalls at your light level (270) and I was dying quite a bit. I learnt the nightfall. Figured out what to do and what not to do and finally cracked it. I then tried prestige and same thing happened however determination prevails. I like a challenge. Something that gets to you when you fail but the excitement after conquering it is an amazing feeling.
-
I hear ya and some people hate it - I really had a lot of fun running the prestige nightfall at 285. Broke up the tedious bullshit with the dogs during the raid. It was a blessing to actually get to shoot stuff and have a fun challenge.
-
It doesn't really bother me but it does make killing enemies you can skip pointless. Did the prestige nightfall twice and skipped loads of ads simply to save time.
-
Totally agree with you they have ruined night fall. Epic fail Bungie

D1 nightfalls were fun, even vanilla. D2 speed runs are not.
