Destiny 2 In-Depth Analysis and Review: Not a speck of light is showing...
Greetings My Fellow Guardians,
One of the worst things that has bothered me throughout my entire life is the concept of missed potential. With Destiny 1, I was upset due to the lack of story and meaningful content because I knew where it could have gone and everything felt, for lack of a better term, just plain gutted. It felt like Destiny 1 was a hollow shell we were meant to buy and then have to pay to put things in it that made it functional. Its like if, when you were born, you were only given a skeleton and skin and told you would have to wait for your organs. That’s not how games should work and that’s not how this beloved company has done things in the past. Many of us chalked it up to corporate greed from the Activision Overlords so we accepted it and waited for more content, participating in what little there was because we were all so inspired by what was possible and the little snippets that we saw while the game was in development that we just knew there was more to be had.
Even with all the DLC, in the end Destiny 1 is not a good game. It is an ok game and one that I will always remember fondly because of the memories I made with my friends but aside from the awakening of the undead Iron Lords in the final DLC, there was not a single story element that I remember actually making me shocked or enthralled in the slightest. Sure, there were the raids, but when they first came out you needed a highly dedicated team of players who knew what they were doing and could communicate efficiently or a raid veteran with the patience of a saint. I can see why so many people did not complete the raid activities and I can see why many people refused to return to the game after experiencing the initial launch of the game and the poor bag of bones we were given.
Destiny 2 is sadly not much different. Yes, many of the things that were wrong with the first game on its release were fixed such as the story being in the game and a much clearer loot system without as much randomly generated nonsense, but where this game takes two steps forward, it can take anywhere from one to three steps back. While the launch of this game is far better than the initial state of the previous, it is still a far cry from a good game and even falls shy of the end state of Destiny 1 which makes me feel like my wallet is going to be bled dry by the time I have fully experienced what Destiny 2 should be.
Well, here goes nothing. This is my review of Destiny 2:
I am breaking down my review into multiple parts for a few reasons, the first being that the character limit on the site does not allow me to hash out all the nitty gritty details I want to go into, it will allow me to add more to the review based on input, and I also feel like I can better organize everything this way. Please let me know what your thoughts on this are because it is far more fun to see what everyone else is thinking as well and to have an honest discussion about it.
Now, on with the show!

In Conclusion
Destiny 2 is a fun, addicting game that surpasses it’s predecessor in many ways, but it falls short in a few areas that the previous game ended up doing better. It is not a great game and with all the missed potential, it can be extremely frustrating at times but it is still fun if you play it with others. I will still be playing Destiny 2 long into the future just to see where it may go, but as of right now, the game stands incomplete and very imperfect which are two things that a game’s launch should not have. When you launch a game, you are sending out a complete game with all the fixings. You should not have pieces missing, key plot threads left open, or leave the player feeling like you are holding back on them and Destiny 2 feels like these things have happened.
