Leviathan Raid is frustrating, here's why.

Hey all. My first post in a long time. So basically, I played the raid today. OH BOY, WHERE DO I BEGIN? So firstly, the revive system is complete crap. Really bungie? revive tokens in a raid? Ever stop to think of how soul crushing it is to get so far in an encounter, then wipe because no one can revive a guy? OH, AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON WIPES BECAUSE OF THAT. The 30 second timer that causes a wipe if a teammate is not revived? I legit wanted to smash my xbox after the 27th try at baths, getting to the last rotation, and having someone die in mid. I AM FURIOUS WITH YOU, BUNGIE. I could understand choosing one or the other, between these two mechanics, but BOTH? How is this even remotely fair and balanced? I could do it with a team that is good, but when most of my friends are casual players and my clan is filled with mostly my friends (Reminder, mostly casual players), I have to get a bunch of randoms, and my social anxiety goes on overdrive when I do that. Seriously, my team was decent, but we just couldn't get past garden in the end. I love the visuals of the raid, and the music is good, but the death related mechanics are completely and utterly TRASH. Go back to destiny 1 raid death systems, and it might be less infuriating to do. I just can't enjoy the raid like this, and as my titan is at 295 as of raid launch, I felt like I would be able to handle it. I really did. I was hopeful for this raid, bungie. I was really hopeful. I should have known better. If anyone ever wants to try to run the raid, and will be willing to put up with my anxiety around new people, please feel free to message me. I just need better teammates than my friends, no offense to them. I just want to get things done and I can't do that with the people I play with normally. Again, I don't hate the raid itself. I really enjoyed the visuals, and the mechanics. The only real complaint I have as a long term player is that the death mechanics are too punishing for a normal mode raid. EDIT: All of this is referring to NORMAL MODE MECHANICS. Please relate my post to D1 Normal raids, not hard raids. EDIT 2: Thank you all for your replies. I really want to specifically mention that the raid didn't feel hard for me, but it felt too punishing for the players who did end up dying. each run, one player at least would die, and I died significantly less than the others on my team. I was frustrated at the time of the original post, causing my phrasing to not be very clear about what I meant. Yes, this raid is a challenge, but I could beat it with a team that actually could coordinate better than my original team. I need to be able to trust my teammates to play well, but both teams I ran with had people I couldn't really trust, as I had played with them before and they were really bad.

  • I'm fine with difficult. I'm fine with frustrating. I'm fine with unfair. But I'm not okay with not getting any gear whatsoever from an entire raid.

    • To be fair, if you have 5 or less in pretty much any encounter it's a wipe. You NEED 6 in everything that's a darkness zone.

        • I don't understand all these issues with the raid. The baths is practically the same as the part right before warpriest in kings fall and the hounds seem like one of the hardest parts of the raid which is in every raid. Golgoroth was the hardest in kings fall in the beginning by far, and he's not the final boss but once it's week 5 or so, we all can easily do it with the best strategy there is. Of course you might not finish it the first week, that's how it always goes for normal players

          • I wouldn't mind it AS much if I received loot for my time. Making it to the gauntlet and not getting a single piece of loot, other than tokens I can't use yet, burns me out on destiny. You should be guaranteed a piece of loot on each encounter for the first week atleast. Any feelings I had toward the raid are made much worse by spending all that time with no reward. You are supposed to feel good about completing encounters and getting sweet loot. Completing them with 0 reward leaves a very bitter taste.

Did the bath and hounds blind with an lfg team. The bath once we figured out the encounter was smooth. The hounds took 3 hours, yes some of it was because one guy was a moron and kept being seen but very often it was because of the dogs glitching. We had a dog teleport behind us a few times and had one that ran into the spore room and stayed there even during the howling dps phase, their sight is misleading, often turning around randomly or suddenly sprinting forward and seeing someone behind a corner. Overall extremely frustrating and I can't imagine wanting to do it with an lfg team again, nor can I see people staying for long on guided games. After 6 hours getting up to gauntlet I had to get off and for some reason didn't feel my time had been rewarded with nothing but tokens.

              • Respect your opinion but personally this may become my second favorite raid. Need to play it more. In fact I just have to kill Callus now. I like the revive tokens a ton. I think it adds a layer of difficulty for the normal raid. All the trials are fun IMO. ESPECIALLY the Pleasure Gardens with the dogs. I got a great system going on right side. Overall I love this raid.

It's a damn endgame challenge and supposed to be hard. Previous Raids like WoTM or Crota's End were nothing but glorified Strikes. A Raid should challenge your ability to communicate, working together, focus on objectives and priorities even in chaotic situations. And it's a test for each player's skill and awareness. It's the ultimate test for hardcore players, not for casuals. No one is forced to play it anyway. But I guess everyone just want another Crotas End where everything was just handed out to the players. Get better until you beat it. This is the only thing you can do.

                    • I think no checkpoints would be a good thing in hard mode but normal mode seems to punish casuals.

                      • Honestly I only like half of the new death/revive mechanics. I like that if you don't revive the person in 30 seconds its a full wipe. It adds some focus to getting your teammates back and not trying to lone gun it. I don't like the revive tokens, specifically for a non-hard mode version of the raid. A good chunk of people are using this raid to bring their light up, when there's an odd death mechanic added it makes it mildly more frustrating when a teammate dies. I think my group's salt level rose a bit earlier than it should've due to our lowest light member getting his ass handed to him from his LL and us essentially saying "screw it we're wiping, we need revives for later."

I am a little split on this. I agree with the OP that this does not feel like a raid. I would say my favorite raids have been VOG, Crota, Oryx and believe it or not even though not technically a raid Skolas. Wrath of the machine was alright but I never finished phase 2 of the boss fight because I became bored of destiny and figured I would wait for destiny 2. Why bother grinding for gear I'm not gonna need? They were difficult but were not luck based. What I kind of dislike about ithis raid is there is no motivation to do any part of this raid except maybe the end point. It's unrewarding overall. Also the mechanics are OK but I dislike my freedom of movement being taken away. Hold this plate oh and by the way here's a guy with swords who is pretty much in your face. Don't die though because you pretty much are done. It's too punishing which does not equate fun or difficultly. I would rather fight an insane horde of enemies and have my movements be the defining factor of a win condition over stand here and shoot. Kind of a boring and unimaginative mechanic. It seems to be a common theme for this raid and I don't understand why. I will admit I am having trouble at the baths and I am going to do a little more work on my light to get to 280 to help with a little more margin of error on my part and give it another go. I typically enjoy the raids as they are fast paced and difficult but this one seems like a strike with mechanics. No bosses until the end? No traditional check points? That does not make it hard it just makes it harder to complete if you don't have an exorbitant amount of time to set aside in one go. I will complete this at least once and if the gear is good I will just forge my way through it but this is more for feedback for bungie than anything. TLDR raids need to be rewarding and need to be more skill based with interesting mechanics. I hope going forward they improve upon the formula they already know but for some reason decided to change when the formula wasn't broken.

                        • Seriously your whining. You think it's too tough so, in your brain it sucks. So you want Bungie to change it to accommodate your lack of ability to want to learn something.

                          • your not supposed to die dude if you use all your team revive token it's because you are not powerful enought to do the raid or you need more practice because all 3 part is very very easy when you know the strat. for my team: bathing only 1 die, garden multiple wipe before we find the good strat but after we doing realy realy realy easy and for the last part before final boss this part is the most easy part of the raid no one is suppose to die at this part because it's so easy

                          • My first raid completions in Destiny 1 never had any "irl" friends in them due to them always being a little slow to learn and adjust to each scenario. It's kinda bad when just about any random who can watch their radar and take cover is better than most of the people I play with.

                            • The raid was just released and most people have no idea what they're doing... + weapons are not optimized yet, people are just using what's highest for light so... can't blame them. And I highly doubt many are 295+ either though 280 is enough for maximum dmg output. Give it time or you'll just have to try your luck LFG. I've been in countless raid teams (not this raid) and it varies from really bad (2-3 hours) to less than 40 min. start to finish.
