Hey, forgive me if this is the wrong forum, but I'd love to get a response from Urk if possible.
We've been told many times over the last year and a bit, that our 25-digit Halo PC keys will unlock something in Reach (I'm thinking probably something similar to the Halo 2 emblem thing). Well it's been ages now since we've had an update on this, and whilst I'm cool with whatever it is being a surprise, I'm a little suspicious as to maybe whether what it would've been was cancelled.
So, can anyone tell me if our Halo PC keys will come in handy for something with Reach (not implying that I/we would throw it away lol)? :)

Whoa, people! My PM box just exploded after replying below. I can't field questions on an individual basis, and there are getting to be too many posts in this thread for me to read everything. The answer: wait and see. And don't try and buy it now, because the list of valid keys was locked in May to those already used, to prevent us from being overrun by keygenners. A few more weeks of patience, and we'll start validating keys, PC and Mac. The reward is a small visual thing in-game, similar to what we promised for Halo 2 players. Please self-police this thread by pointing people to the main answer: wait and see.

You always have to admire Bungie. They usually tip their hats to the fans that have been here since day 1.
-
Do you get it on all of the accounts on your xbox?
-
So wait, i have one of the older copies of Halo PC. Bought it, and played it all the time (not online, didnt have internet access back when i originally bought it.) Am I S.O.L. on this? Or could i re-install it, play some online, and be eligible? Die hard Halo fan, and I'd be somewhat crushed to miss this opportunity. Or perhaps is there someway to prove my copy and key are legit and not keygenned or something if im past the cuttoff but have an older copy of the game? [Edited on 08.08.2010 6:02 PM PDT]
Posted by: Shoot U up
Posted by: Mythic
Posted by: JAY132 Nah there's no way to tell unfortunately. To be honest, if you've bought Halo PC, it was probably to play it online, which if you do, you're good to go. :)
I used mine way back in 2004 or so... Will I still be eligible as I haven't used it since?
More likely than not. Just wait a while and find out. :)
I'm pretty sure Sawnose said any key that had been used online up till May would be OK to use. The only real requirement was that you had logged into an online match. Edit from first page post:
To clarify, OLD keys work. If you ever used your key (technically, to enter the multiplayer game lobby, since that's what validates the key) at any time from 2003 until a couple months ago (May?), you should be ok. We won't be allowing NEW keys, because we'll assume they were keygenned.
[Edited on 08.08.2010 9:37 AM PDT]

great, now i got to dig out my Halo CD case.

I think it's really cool that Bungie is giving something to old Halo PC gamers like myself.
-
The only thing that worries me is that some keygen steals my code...

Is there any way to tell if you have a validated key? I've had my copy for quite some time - however, I can't remember if I've used it online or not.
-
My dad threw my copy away years ago. If it wasn't for that I'd still have it somewhere. Oh well.
-
Dang. Missed my chance to get onto Halo 2 before the shutdown (never played it on my 360, but played plenty on the original Xbox), and played Halo: C.E. (again, O. Xbox) at least 25 times on Legendary, start to finish. At least I'll have my memories to keep me warm.
-
Man I havn't played that in years - Still have my copy here Think I'll re-install it.... :-D
-
Awesome. I'm so glad I chose to actually buy Halo PC about 4 years ago. :D
-
Damn, I never played Halo PC online until last month and I never heard about this. Oh well.
-
Awesome, I JUST learned about the CE key flair, that's awesome. My virtual disc is filename is my cd key, but I don't remember if I really ever played online with it... uh oh
-
If I ever played PC games (competitively) I would have definitely been playing CE. Lucky you guys. Though, if all goes well, I should get my Halo 2 thing.
-
I found my key! I'm so happy this took hours to find.
-
:D Now I'm glad I kept my copy... (may have to jump back in and play some more...)
-
There's just the UPC number for the XBOX version, so there isn't a way to tie that to one specific user. Everyone could get the item at that point.
Posted by: Always4Shotin
Posted by: TrustySn00ze What if I buy a used copy of Halo: CE? Then will it work? I have a Xbox but not a PC version.
It could work but the owner probably wrote down the CD key to use on his account......I wouldn't buy a used copy. Plus I don't think this flair won't be that big of a deal.
Yeah, I'll have the Halo 2 flair anyways, and I doubt you will be able to use more than one at a time. They sould make it so if you enter your serial number for the Xbox version, you would get flair.
Posted by: sawnose Yes, that was me in the podcast, and in fact we were discussing details at the office today. We should have the final feature ready for use in about a month. "Halo 1 for Mac" users are included in this. "Halo 2 for PC" is NOT included since Bungie wasn't involved in that port. edit - The reward is a small "visual flair", as was described during the last days of Halo 2 for players of that game. Not armor or anything in the Armory. We realize that some people have lost their keys or never played online to validate their key, and edit - "Halo: Custom Edition" - YES And the precise cutoff date for CD Keys was May 26th, 2010. If your key was ever used online before then, it counts.
I'm all clear on my Halo CE PC Custom Edition keys. And I definitely was activated based on the explanations so far. I may be following up on a tangent here but will the Halo2 flair also be available in Reach too? I ask because due to Microsoft having screwed up my original xbox live account which was just "Interstel" they forced me to re-sign back up as "Interstel1" even though they had all my information correct and my original xbox still tries to login as that account and issues a warning. So all my data was lost from my original account. And according to my Bungie.Net stats I played 1 game of Halo2 online on xbox live which obviously is a way way off no way. Heck I played more than that with Halo2 PC online. So I'm wondering if I've lost out on Halo2 flair which would be shame as I've got everything Halo back to the beginning. Its the only reason I ever box an Xbox or an Xbox360. And I've bought LE or Legendary versions of each game as it came out. Interstel tag Interstel1

sorry if this has been said but what is the SO armor

I bought Halo:ce last year for PC but I don't think i played online with it though. so I guess I wont get this "Visual Flair". Damn!
