Hey, forgive me if this is the wrong forum, but I'd love to get a response from Urk if possible.
We've been told many times over the last year and a bit, that our 25-digit Halo PC keys will unlock something in Reach (I'm thinking probably something similar to the Halo 2 emblem thing). Well it's been ages now since we've had an update on this, and whilst I'm cool with whatever it is being a surprise, I'm a little suspicious as to maybe whether what it would've been was cancelled.
So, can anyone tell me if our Halo PC keys will come in handy for something with Reach (not implying that I/we would throw it away lol)? :)

Whoa, people! My PM box just exploded after replying below. I can't field questions on an individual basis, and there are getting to be too many posts in this thread for me to read everything. The answer: wait and see. And don't try and buy it now, because the list of valid keys was locked in May to those already used, to prevent us from being overrun by keygenners. A few more weeks of patience, and we'll start validating keys, PC and Mac. The reward is a small visual thing in-game, similar to what we promised for Halo 2 players. Please self-police this thread by pointing people to the main answer: wait and see.
Posted by: oMRCHUCKNORRISo What exactly did registering the CD key do using the link? I never used that "Register Now" link, I just played in online matches.
I don't know what "Register Now" did either. That's not needed for this, you just have to have played.

You do not get anything for Halo 2 PC because Bungie "supposedly" had no involvement in the port of the game. [Edited on 08.12.2010 1:03 AM PDT]

I think one of my friends used a keygen since he was able to play online and said he had downloaded the game.
Posted by: Serious Suicide With these sort of things, even though I have a perfectly valid key, I always get paranoid that there will be some crazy exception just for me and I wont get it...
I know that feeling, lol. I have a Halo: CE and Halo 2 pc valid, legit key. I hope it works.
Posted by: Philly100000
Posted by: sawnose I'm going to go out on a limb and (drumroll) ask for advice here... The keygen I was originally worried about appears to be fake, with just a couple baked-in keys that it randomly picks from. If there really isn't a working keygen that allows you to play online (not just install the game, which is "easy" to make keys to do) then I can lift the May 26th cutoff and allow all keys including new ones. So I'll ask you: does anyone know of a real Halo PC keygen? If you do, don't post the link here (duh), and if you don't, don't respond because a million "no" messages won't help me. thanks.
I wouldn't necessarily remove the cutoff date to allow all keys because you never really know if there really a working keygen. There's also many people here who may or may not have one, nobody really knows, and nobody really wants to tell. In my personal opinion, keep the cutoff date at May 26th, because in the future once Reach is released. People may start to create legitimate keygens that will create legitimate keys and everyone will thus have the piece of armor.
Just what I was gonna say ;). Except it's not armor.

I got mine in at LEAST 2005, activitated the key about 6 months later, same for Halo 2 for PC, im so glad that I kept both of the games keygens. I got halo ce on pc hen i got my first wirele network :D
Great! I can't remember any keygen that was made for Halo PC, that was really a keygen and not a keypick. It's probably due to the fact that the key checks were only done when you play multiplayer. Perhaps games nowadays check as soon as you start the game, so you can't play anything with an invalid key. If i remember correctly, and this is delving back quite a way, halo pc was pretty unpopular on the scene, but the cd-key requirement was cracked out pretty quickly. Throw in the fact half a dozen keys, probably the same half a dozen you've found, were distributed everywhere and it seems quite unlikely that anyone will have bothered to make a real keygen.

Is it just custom edition, or are people who played regular halo for pc (without the mods) included too?
-
Posted by: DevilishOne666 this is so stupid im gona be really disapointed in bungie if pc users get something people who have the original for xbox dont get
Well, how would you expect them to track people who bought it for thew Xbox? I'm sure when they thought of this they wanted to give it to all Halo: CE players, but it would be logistically impossible, so they settled on giving it to Halo: CE for PC players.
-
Yes. Please just go to the first page of this thread, and read Sawnose's post. It's as clear as daylight! Any code used before May 26th 2010 will work. Any code used after that date, will not.
-
So Logically I assume if you were to buy a copy of Halo CE today, the Code would not work because It wasn't used before the 26th? Even though it wasn't a Keygen?
-
I'd say closer to PAX, we'll see some more info on this. Not particularly for any other reason than I expect we'll see/hear/find out some new Reach stuff then.
-
So in how many weeks, do you think Bungie will open an "activation page" for those with PC Key still in hand?
-
That stinks, them getting a nod, I played halo pc trial for like 2 years because I could never afford the full version and it won't say I loved halo 1! That was all I had, a crap pc and no xbox, oh well.
-
This thread got me playing Halo: CE again!

You always have to admire Bungie. They usually tip their hats to the fans that have been here since day 1.
