Halo PC keys connected to something in Halo Reach?

Hey, forgive me if this is the wrong forum, but I'd love to get a response from Urk if possible. We've been told many times over the last year and a bit, that our 25-digit Halo PC keys will unlock something in Reach (I'm thinking probably something similar to the Halo 2 emblem thing). Well it's been ages now since we've had an update on this, and whilst I'm cool with whatever it is being a surprise, I'm a little suspicious as to maybe whether what it would've been was cancelled. So, can anyone tell me if our Halo PC keys will come in handy for something with Reach (not implying that I/we would throw it away lol)? :) Note from Sawnose: Whoa, people! My PM box just exploded after replying below. I can't field questions on an individual basis, and there are getting to be too many posts in this thread for me to read everything. The answer: wait and see. And don't try and buy it now, because the list of valid keys was locked in May to those already used, to prevent us from being overrun by keygenners. A few more weeks of patience, and we'll start validating keys, PC and Mac. The reward is a small visual thing in-game, similar to what we promised for Halo 2 players. Please self-police this thread by pointing people to the main answer: wait and see. [Edited on 07.27.2010 9:03 PM PDT by sawnose]

 • So one small question. Is there any way for me to tell if my key was from a key-picker? I had a legit one a long time ago and I'm not sure if the one the key recovery tool found is original or not. I have played online with it quite a bit on custom edition. I ask because what if I check my other PCs and find different keys? Thanks [Edited on 08.16.2010 1:52 AM PDT]

 • I think it will be an emblem to go on your title bar like the septagon for Halo 3.

 •
Posted by: King Gladitor I'm guessing it's a medal to go on your Halo: Reach armor.
That would be cool. I'm thinking it will be a small, yet subtle icon/emblem on one's Service Record. It will be very similar to what Halo 2 players will be getting during the last day of Halo 2. Still, no one knows what either of these things are, for sure. But we'll find out in the coming Weekly Updates.

 • I got Halo PC this year from a gamestop and they said it was THEIR LAST ONE, and I think I played it before May26th, so I'm good to go. I do have two separate keys. One for Halo PC and one for Halo CE. I have no idea how that happened but I think it involved a virus. [Edited on 08.15.2010 3:01 PM PDT]

This may seem like a dumb question but, I'm not that tech sabby and I don't know how some things worl on the internet. I just don't want to get worried about if someone will validate my code before I can. I get worried of these things. [Edited on 08.15.2010 2:35 PM PDT]

 • Yeah, the keygen i used before i went out and bought the game just sifts through 20 different keys. I think its what someone called a keypicker. It did work for online play though... that is until I bought the game. I really hope this gets lifted though because I don't think I ever played online with the copy that i purchased.

 • Personally, I think that putting a flair for Halo PC should be like using the Bungie symbol in Halo 3. Not everyone used the Bungie symbol, and only Bungie.net users would be able to have the flair. Only people who REALLY REALLY care about getting this flair will activate it. Most people aren't even aware that a Halo PC flair is being distributed soon, only people who visit Bungie.net on a regular basis know that this is happening. Also, if I could make a request (if you still go through with the CD key deal) that you make it two gamertags per key. People with siblings who only have one copy of the game (thus one key) are going to miss out on the flair.

 • I know my key's ancient, since I got one of the first copies of the game. Hopefully it's not gotten stored in the back with the Ark of the Covenant & lost. If all else fails, I'll try using my winning personality & the fact that my name's in the PC version credits to try & get the flair. ;)

 • Ugh. I bought my game forever ago, and i have been in love with Halo since day 1. Should i be refused this in game item because i couldnt play online back then? I think not. No cut off date. If anything, remove the ability to get the in game flair sometime after Reach is out (a week or so), so that if SOMEHOW a keygen is made, it wont be in effect for long. If all else fails, i am more than willing to send in some sort of picture of my box, disc and key to someone at Bungie to get this. Like i have previously said, not getting this simply because i didnt have internet back then will really be a major let down. [Edited on 08.13.2010 3:36 PM PDT]

 • Unfortunately I lost my key. I was still playing Halo Ce last year it was so fun. I also played Halo 2, but offline (borrowed from my friend) Aw man I miss it. BTW don't download from AdvancedBob, I tried and it said that there was no Halo registry value found and then my anti virus program found a virus. If you downloaded it don't run it, it won't help you find back the key instead it gives you virus. [Edited on 08.13.2010 8:55 AM PDT]

 • Just use this if you don't have your key, but Halo was installed on your current PC: http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=4547 It just checks your registry for the key. It works even if you uninstalled Halo.

 • I say keep the deadline the 26th. Why? People who buy it now wont even play the game but only get it for the flair. [Edited on 08.12.2010 10:41 AM PDT]

I played Halo PC for ever and it was the first Halo game I owned. I'm kind of disappointed that I won't be receiving this flair since I lost my CD key. EDIT: Or maybe you could verify IP addresses of those who have played online, instead of Product Keys (if that's even possible)?
I believe the registration link just brings you to the Microsoft product registration page. If they asked you for your CD key some time in the past, it could possibly work, but those records... Doing this by IP address would not be feasible. IP addresses change frequently. If you have an extended power outage, switch routers, or switch ISPs, your IP address has definitely changed. The only exception would be if you kept the same ISP for the past 7 years with a static IP package, which hardly anyone does.
