They are fine. You just should only be using them inside 20 feet at the longest range. In that range they are the fastest TTK outside of a power weapon. The Sidearms are good but you need the ones that are full auto or three round burst, they -blam!-ing destroy people at close range. Use them as they were meant to be used. I have so many damn kills with the SMG because I use it when going close range. Don't try to use it like an auto-rifle, you will fail. Think of it as a shotgun replacement that is only for when things are very near. Downvoting because the weapon balance is absolutely spot on in this game and literally every single type of weapon is the ebst in its own sweet spot. Nothing, nothing whatsoever, other than teh grenade launcher, needs to be changed.

  • 1. 20 feet? That's [b]six[/b] metres. Shotguns in the original Destiny had a longer range than that. 2. Why do I 'need' to use burst-fire and automatic Sidearms? Do you mean to say that semi-automatic Sidearms should suck? 3. I never complained about SMG range.

  • Shotguns had too much range in D1 for OHKO weapon. And yeah, the range is perfect. I regularly shred people to pieces with the SMG, but I use it at the right time, like when I know people are going to come around a corner in close range, or in a small room. Every weapon type will have a couple guns in it that outperform the others. For SMGs, the burst fire and full auto ones are the easiest to mow people down at close range with, and that seems to be what you were having a problem with. Semi-auto side arms are also very good if you get hte right one. I used Drang yesterday and absolutely ruined people on one of the small maps, so if you get the right semi-auto it is awesome. Drang also has pretty long range, so you can see how effective range is on Sidearms when using it. If they boosted range, they would probably be OP.
