• The thought of rerunning The Leviathan raid just for shaders makes me wanna punch babies, kick puppies, and body slam kittens.

I came up with a solution that I think might please everyone : Keep the current system, but make it so if you apply the same shader to every piece of armour and class item ( 5 pieces ), it then creates a 'preset' of that shader that works like a D1 shader does, and can be reapplied whenever you choose. If you want to mix and match then you still use the current system as is. At least this way if you run the raid and get 5 copies of the shader, you can make a preset of it to take on and off as you please. It will also let people like myself that like switching out shaders regularly, depending on mood etc, to build a catalog of presets that we can do that with, whilst keeping the current system relevant. Seems like the best of both worlds to me. . edit. I would also keep the weapon, ship, sparrow shader system as it is now

      • The only people that want to use their glimmer on shaders, have not reached 280+ light yet ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Mods and infusion are hella expensive

      • Yeah. This sounds like a good idea to offset the negativity of the one time use. Plus... I have so much glimmer that I don't know what to do with it. Make a shader $2000-$5000 glimmer and call it good.

      • Please yes Bungie! Love most of the changes you have made in D2 but the current shader situation is annoying. Gives us another reason to grind for glimmer anyway.

        • It's not the fact that they want you to grind for them but it just makes them more valuable! Having a full set of shaders is way cooler now

        • Nah man -blam!- that, you get a bright engram every level and bright dust or w.e the -blam!- it is to purchase 3 legendary shades she sells. There's no point. I literally have gotten the coolest shades.

        • This would make things easier but I can't agree with this. I love having to grind for a full set of shaders, it makes them way more satisfying to have.

Honestly it would mean that you could just buy tons of the raid shader. The ones that aren't legendary would be fine but legendary shaders should be through rng

I got an alternative idea if Bungie doesn't want to do this: Still have a place where we can purchase shaders, but instead of glimmer, we obtain the specific shaders we want by combination. For example, you want the Golden Trace shader, we need 2 of Midnight Talon and 2 of Xenosilver to obtain 5 Golden Traces. Plus, you can still buy a shader from Tess

If you think about it, WE are the people to blame for this. But before anything else, hear me out. Back in Destiny 1, I hoped for the ability to customize each of my Guardian's gear pieces and weapons. I know other Guardians wanted the same idea, and we wanted the system to be what we desired it to be. While that wasn't what happened back in that game, I got used to the shader system and started to like it when they introduced newer shaders (and those cool Raid shaders!). After hearing the announcement that Destiny 2 offers you the ability to customize every single gear and weapon, I think Bungie did take this a little bit too serious on the full customization idea... I do agree with some points regarding the argument (Glimmer cost for inputting Legendary shaders is ridiculous), however I am in favor of this new system. I like the idea of grinding for a specific shader piece within the planet or activity. It gives us a fresh new way to loot for goodies. I will admit, it's not for everyone, but at least cut Bungie some slack. PS: Do realize that WE, the community; the Guardians, are the people who demand change and are very vocal about it. Remember, PLEASE BE CAREFUL with what you wish for because you just might get it, and it may not be what you thought you wished for.

              • After playing for almost a week and leveling 2 characters to 270+ I think the new shader system is just fine. I have spent $0 at Eververse and have way too many rare/uncommon shaders and several small stacks of legendary shaders. I have been frequently using uncommon/rare shaders on rare armor and saving my legendary shaders for legendary armor that I really like. Also, I currently have around 800 bright dust to use on shaders and other customization items if I please. Since we get a bright engram every time we level up after 20, spending real money for bright engrams is just a way to skip the time it takes to level up and everyone should be perfectly fine with that. To be honest, I almost prefer shaders to be consumable now too. Having one of your favorite shaders drop again or having a new awesome shader drop feels good and rewarding. Waiting for Tess to sell that one shader that I love again is just fine too. Using shaders feels much more like a personal investment now and I think that's a good thing. That, plus finding or spending bright dust on ornaments, ships, shaders, or whatever else you like gives a good sense of customization progression that is much better than in D1. In D1, I used the same 2 or 3 shaders almost the entire 3 years. In, D2 I've already tried dozens of different shader combinations, and the fact that they're consumable instead of one time drops just gives us a reason to look forward to when one of our favorite shaders drops again or when we can buy it again at the vendor. For now, just don't waste your favorite legendary shaders on armor that you may change soon or are not too sure about. The game has only been out for a week. Everybody shouldn't have huge stacks of all their favorite legendary shaders yet, but most will in time.
feel free to comment if you have anything to add or if you disagree
• I completely disagree with this. I get shaders aaaallll the time. I probably have 8 of 20 different shaders. With your prestige level up giving you bright engrams every time, why dont you focus your energy on farming up experience to get more bright engrams instead of wasting it making forum posts about how you somehow cant get more shaders.

                    • Why bother? Shaders drop at a ridiculously high rate already. No need to increase the economy. Just play the game and you'll be fine.

                    • I sincerely hope everyone defending this system realizes that as you level up you require more XP to level each time. Meaning that in a few weeks the Bright Engram grind is gonna slow to a halt. We shouldn't even have to bargain with Bungie on this. Change them to back to how they were and stop trying to "fix" things that aren't broken.
