I believe that you will be able to choose as the game progresses. Right now its vanilla destiny 2. They have the games in rotation so people get to experience it all I guess. Just like how they will reintroduce the factions and other stuff that's missing from D1.
Just my thought. Destiny 2 currently feels bareboned as did D1 at start. Who knows we'll see
