Can we just talk about that talking Harpy on Nessus you find during the "My Captain" quest.
Like...why was it so friendly?
And what exactly is it?
Why did it lead you to Captain Jacobson (the former captain of the Exodus Black)?
From what I've seen, I've come up with a short theory:
That Harpy is Captain Jacobson. Or at least, what's left of his consciousness.
I believe the Vex or Jacobson himself found a way to transfer his mind into a Vex "shell". Why either of them would do that, is still up in the air.
I'm thinking either the Captain did it so he could survive or the Vex did it so they could experiment on the human mind.
What do you guys at #Lore think?

9 RepliesI am VERY interested in this quest. Failsafe says that the Vex are extremely cruel. The Exo Stranger said that they were so evil it actually despised other evil. I have yet to see evidence of this besides the fate of Praedyth and Brakion transforming Asher Mir's arm. Other than that, they seem to be more or less trying to find a way to defend themselves. Studying enemies, experimenting with a captured Worm/shard of the Deep in order to beat the Hive, using us to clear out the Taken... it doesn't feel right. Let us not forget that the main enemies we face in that quest are called "Empathetic Sentinels" and we even face the Empathetic Mind at the end. Can the Vex even feel empathy? Well... yes... they can feel pretty much anything. "Anger the Groundskeeper", "The Vex are scared of the Taken", etc. I don't really know how Jacobson feels about it, but I consider it a goddamned pleasure to be saved from true death.

2 RepliesOk so here are some facts: We find a scannable item that allows exos to run interference with the vex. Osiris sends us a message to our ghost through the vex. Ikora hears Osiris in one of the strikes. So I think Osiris might have a part in this. But he IS watching us!

It's him, but in a strange way. It's more like Jacobson was absorbed into the Vex as a part of their experiments on him; he did say the wanted to study him. Remember the Exodus Black is from the Golden Age or from the Collapse. So perhaps these guys were the first humans the Vex had seen for themselves. This is why when Failsafe speaks to him, he says "I have that memory" instead of "I remember". Does anybody watch GoT?
Think of Bran Stark turning into the three eyed raven
That quest was a lot of fun.

Am i the only one who found him creepy AF?

I actually have the same theory, and I was about to post about it when I saw this post xD

1 ReplyI agree. The Vex have a shared conscience, Kabr and Praedeyth are in there chilling with captain Jacobson too.

1 ReplyBased on the fact that Jacobsen says in his last transmission that the Vex most likely want to experiment on him, his consciousness ended up being transferred into the Harpy as a result of the experimentation. It must have had some effect on his memory tho cause he seemed confused at first when Failsafe spoke to him

To keep it short, I believe they transferred his mind into the Harpy or even Vex Network in some form of experimentation. We know the Vex have always been interested in the Light, Darkness, and such. That's probably why they were so friendly with us. It could also be that the Harpy has been influenced by the captain and has taken on some of his character.

I agree with your theory of the Vex transferring his conciousnes into the shell of a harpy because inside the quest Captain Jacobson says in his last recording that "I think they plan to study me" which brings me to the assumption the Vex are the culprit to his memories winding up in this harpy versus his own doing.

I'm gonna go with they downloaded his brain waves (like when failsafe mentioned digitizing brainwaves) and was using the memories to try and simulate empathy from his memories to failsafe. The empathy part is reinforced by the vex you fight at the end.
