Anyone found more info on the "distant" colony mentioned to be trading with Titan? Found a scannable that said it contained trading logs with a very far away Colony by the name of Hyperion.

I have read the whole Hyperion series by Dan Simmons. When I first landed on Titan I didn't think it was anything special. I did some public events and such and mainly just explored the area. then I came across the scannable object that when scanned, your ghost tells about how it is detecting a massive moving object under the water. Then I thought of the massive Lamp-Mouth Leviathans talked about in the Hyperion book series that reside on an ocean planet that only supports life on huge rigs that stay out of the water on huge stilts. I had to take a sec and tell myself that it is probably just some crazy coincidence, then I went to the arcology's CPU core during the Utopia mission. I had killed some bad guys and got some loot so I went to manage my inventory and when I exited it was blown away to see this massive shadowy create outside the glass, in the ocean. at that point, I thought that there must be someone on the destiny 2 dev team that thought it would be cool to sneak a little easter egg in there with the reference to a giant creature and the actual appearance of one. then a couple of days later I return to Titan and I am exploring a bit trying to get kills for a patrol when I come across the scannable object that talks about Hyperion. I almost shit myself when I started to make the connections. I absolutely love that Hyperion book series and I was very happy to see it being referenced in today's pop culture. I know it most likely wasn't intended, but there are a lot of things that could point to it being intentional. I just wanted to add my feedback and see what you guys think. I hope you enjoy. please upvote so others can see.

During the Golden Age some of the Ishtar Collective scientists, notably Chioma Esi, were relocated there following the diaspora of their simulated selves into the Vex network. She and Maya Sundaresh were frequent correspondents despite the vast distance separating them. It traded with Titan regularly https://www.destinypedia.com/Hyperion

So anybody remember Iron Lords dlc for D1, some talk about Lady Efrideet being a survivor of the SIVA Crisis. Supposedly she ended up on some distant colony with a group of pacifist guardians?
-
1 ReplyI don't know why they would trade with them. The only thing good is their shotguns.
It's also a moon of Saturn.
-
1 ReplyHyperion, a small moon of Saturn thought to be composed largely of rock and water ice. The colony there was likely an ice mining operation providing water for the main base on Titan. It may also be a reference to the Hyperion Cantos by Dan Simmons, which features an entity called the Shrike that may have been an influence on both the Hive and Vex.

The Borderlands is strong in this thread! <3

Interesting, I'll have to find that scan. Hyperion is also the name of a Project that Chioma was working on while Maya developed the Device. I wonder if they are one and the same.

2 RepliesIt's a very famous science-fiction book / series, which you kids would know if you spent a little time reading instead of playing video games.

I still prefer Borderlands to Destiny, but until Bord3rlands comes out it's as stale as Year 2.
