Another side effect of 4 v 4 is quitting raises the stakes much faster than in 6 v. 6. You might be able to hang on if you're losing in a 6 v 5 or even 6 v 4 until the game replaces those guys. But in Destiny 2, if you lose someone its 4 v 3 and if another quits (which has happened to me), its now 4 v 2. Very difficult to come back from that if they aren't replaced quickly.
So when you get matched as a solo player against a team of 4 clanmates and one of your teammates quits, well, you can do the math.
