Don't have permission to join friends at the farm?

You have to beat the first 2 story missions first. Then it will tell you, "you can now access the campaign and crucible and yadda yadda" Everything prior to that you're still in the "tutorial" if you will.

You may not be at a point in the story where you can go to the farm
