Somewhere I heard that Reach's legth is similar to Halo3's, which was pretty short. However this does not mean it will be bad, or even "short" feeling at all.
Think back to Halo3, if all the maps were like The Ark, Covenant, Tsavo Highway I'm sure many more people would like it, even if it was just as short. The thing is what made Halo3 less approved was the "bad" maps, the maps that nobody really liked. But if there were more "3 tank Ark battles" or "2 Scarab Covenant battles" Halo3 short or not would have been much better.
So whats my point? IF it's true, and Halo Reach is "Short" don't worry, because as long as we get some epic maps, with epic battles, gameplay, and challenging A.I and great friendly A.I Reach will be awesome short or long.
I mean if it only takes you 5-6 hours to beat but you keep going "holy -blam!- that was cool" will it really matter? Also remember that 5-6 hours may just be rushing the game, while maybe PLAYING the game may take a lot longer.

Halo 2 levels were way too short, unless you put 2-3 levels together maybe. I should run a Halo3 time game and see how long it takes me to beat it on Normal [because Normal would be it's average time]

The level itself have to be long, and obviously challenging.[/quote]ODST was simply a short campaign, which didn't feature levels that I'd consider that big. The difficulty wouldn't make that much of a difference unless it was super insane. I wouldn't say ODST was harder, either. Halo 3 has big levels; but it was just easier than past games and therefore a shorter experience. Btw, I love ODST. [Edited on 07.24.2010 8:39 AM PDT]

I want 8 to 10 hours of game play, not halo 3's 4 hours

I agree even if it is short, after seeing the E3 demo I think this game will be epic, and don't forget they added forge world.

And the fact that its a sandbox means a lot of time will be spent exploring.

Halo 3 wasn't so long because people could get through it reasonably quickly. With Reach being the hardest Halo it will take longer to beat. [Edited on 07.24.2010 8:32 AM PDT]

How about this who cares how long or short it is just enjoy it and have fun.
-
It most likely is short because of the firefight, new forge world, etc.
-
Level length will possibly be longer.
-
I heard somewhere that the missions in Reach are longer than the ones in H3. I think from the update, not sure.
-
Oh well I'm just saying, incase people began to "loose" hope or anything. And yea I heard it was 9-10 maps as well. I guess we just gotta wait and play for ourselves.
-
That is solid logic and the same way I think about -- as long as all of the missions are epic or close it, I wouldn't mind about the 7 hour playtime.
-
There are the same number of levels as Halo 3, except they are longer. I remember a forum-goer used math to figure out the average time it would take to complete the Campaign, and it was like two and a half times longer than Halo 3's Campaign.
