Now the question is exactly the best open world game. But rather the best open world in a game. Which you enjoyed the most and was the most immersed in. Personally I say Breath of the Wild followed by GTAV. How about all of you guys?

Skyrim is only meh without mods so... The Witcher 3 takes it imo.
-
I'd say the Witcher edges out skyrim thanks to its npcs. Skyrim is great to explore, but the bandit to civilian ratio is way too high. The Witcher feels much more like a real, functioning world.

Edited by Psyntifik: 9/4/2017 10:57:18 PMNier: Automata had a simple elegance. Even though the world was small and pretty bland, it was almost always relevant. it made it fun to travel. WoW simply has the biggest, most intriguing, and most vibrant world I've ever played in. And The Witcher 3 is the only open game world I've played in that felt genuine and alive. Those are my choices, and I can't pick one over the other.

Skyrim wasn't the largest, but was easily my favorite to explore. ESO had a pretty cool open world map.

Edited by Scoose_McGoose: 9/2/2017 4:08:35 PMBreath of the Wild. It's almost perfect. There's always a distraction that's worthwhile. Puzzles and side quests are littered everywhere. It's just fun, whether on horseback or on foot, and that's the most important thing. It reflects the story. There's destruction nearly everywhere. You can see destroyed carriages and huts all over, and the efforts to rebuild. Other than a few spoilers on the internet, I had a lot of fun discovering all the towns and shrines and springs. I may have known where a few where, but what was inside was new and exciting, and how I chose to get there was also surprising because it worked. It feels rewarding. So much variety, too. Jungle, desert, wetlands, snowcapped mountains, plains, forests, and more. I just wish there were bigger towns. I've been trying to break my fast travel habit, and it's worth it.

My top 5 this gen: TW3 HZD ACS ACU InFamous second son/ First light
GTAV would be there but it's last gen.
-
My favorite actual sandbox / world is eeeeeeasily Witcher. I like the lore, the maturity, and how twisted and messed up the world is.

Out of these choices I'd say Destiny
because you can go to that mountain

over there
1. New Vegas 2. Skyrim 3. Witcher 3 4. Breath of the wild

I say BotW. Overall not a fan of the game but the world was nearly flawless.

Breath of the Wild I'd say probably. That game encourages exploration of the open world better than any other I've ever played. And it's actually fun to do so. Plus they fixed Ubisoft towers. And they don't tell you where anything is at all. The only thing towers do is show you what that area of the map looks like. That's it. It's up to you to explore and find all the good stuff so to speak. Which makes you feel amazing when you discover a new shrine, korok, town, etc. Because you found it yourself. You didn't have something telling you where it is on your map (except for Kakariko village at the beginning) Second I'd say would probably be Witcher 3

Gravity Rush 2's was a little annoying when you're going from one area to another as it's a lot of flying with not too much between, but it was definitely interesting with all the floating cities, and running around in Lunar Style was really fun.

Skyrim.

Red dead redemption

Skyrim with tetrachromatic ENB is just sizzling.

Horizon Zero Dawn.
-
Definitely skyrim! I've never had more fun in an open world game than skyrim.

Classic Fantasy: Witcher 3 Spaghetti Western: Red Dead Redemption Most Unique [IMO]: Horizon Zero Dawn
-
Morrowind or Skyrim, didn't really like Oblivion's world, it was pretty much grass and more grass.

I lose interest in a lot of rpg's for some reason. AC games are the only games I'll actually finish for some odd reason. So Im the solo black flag vote lol.

The Crew is a strong contender. Driving from New York to Los Angeles is -blam!-ing awesome. Too bad the vehicle selection and driving physics were terrible.
