thank god im not alone. this problem has made me feel extremely alone and it feels like this is the only other post going through this mess.
i've been furiously doing everything i can possibly think of to fix this problem. my computer has no excuse to be stuttering unplayably in this game. might be important to note - i enabled the FPS overlay and the game doesn't seem to change what FPS it thinks it's running when things hitch (which happens about once a second for me).
i5 4690k (3.5 GHz x 4)
nVidia GTX 1070 (8GB)
12 GB RAM
WIndows 7 Pro SP1
also outputting 144Hz 1080p
THINGS I HAVE TRIED THAT DID NOTHING
changed all video settings to lowest
changed all video settings to highest
rescaling down
rescaling up
Vsync off
Vsycn on at 144, 72, 48, and 36
Fullscreen, Windowed, Windowed-full, Borderless
Multiple resolutions
clean re-install of the game-ready driver
forced nVidia's control panel (not GeForce Experience, the other one) to accept the Destiny 2 app is a game (it didn't auto detect it) and override video settings from there
Disabled antivirus completely
Attempted to re-install Direct X (no such luck, computer insists it's fine and dxdiag shows no issue)
ran the battle.net tool to make sure the game files aren't corrupt, nothing found
THINGS I HAVE TRIED WITH ANY SUCCESS
Played rocket league - everything still runs completely fine, no issues
Played quake champions - everything still works completely fine, no issues
Ran overwatch (to test b.net client)- I went to the practice range, didn't actually queue, but it was fine
OTHER NOTES
i enabled the FPS overlay and the game doesn't seem to change what FPS it thinks it's running when things hitch (which happens about once a second for me). the settings menu also displays the right amount of VRAM - i had heard from a buddy who had to convince his computer that it should be using the better graphics card for some reason, but mine is detecting the 1070 just fine.
PLANS TO TRY (tomorrow because it's late here)
reinstall the game, despite b.net being convinced that it has nothing to repair
switch to my 60Hz second monitor and see if that runs differently
at that point, and failing any kind of official announcement... never think about destiny 2 again, i guess
EDIT: one more thing, i forgot to mention, when the game started initially it had me in some 2k resolution, i don't know why, the screen doesn't support it... but now that i want to switch it back to see if that works, it isn't an option anymore.

I have the same issue, I7 7700k GTX 1060 16 gigs gskill ddr4. Asus Aura z170 pro gaming and all liquid cooled.

Hopefully you can remember what caused it and how you fixed it. Rebooting doesn't help, actually had to do that anyway to update to latest nvidia drivers.

no such luck :(
-
It might be because i went over my files and deleted my skyrim mods folder

Edited by HentaiBishop: 8/30/2017 9:32:59 AMI have tried the 60Hz one, it hasnt worked for me. I plan of wiping my whole computer if the game doesnt run smoothly on release. Im just saying that im pretty sure its something that bungie has to work on, it might be a bug on their side since im PRETTY SURE our rigs and handle and run this game perfectly fine Edit: It might be a software we are using that is causing this but I have tried deleting a lot of stuff to even buying a new graphics card. (I went from GTX 770 to 1060 yesterday because i thought the game wouldnt run on that card. Edit 2: You are appositely right! i remember now. the game started me off also in 2k resolution! thats weird..... my screen shouldnt support it either... If there is anything that you find helpful please tell me. Im guessing we should help each other out and figure out the problem before the beta ends this Thursday. Im not trying to refund this game after release since i threw down $100 because i had a lot of fun from the first game.

Yeah I think its bungie. They don't have a clue how to optimize for PC it seems. The game was running beautifully but once I entered into shared server locations the fps was dropping to ridiculously low levels. Every other game runs 144 on high settings. I don't get this at all.

Edited by ><(((*> Blub: 10/26/2017 3:46:53 PMi just reinstalled windows 10, didnt worked for me, i got also a huge stuttering problem, if i start the game, i got smooth 60fps with vsync on, after a while my graphics card goes down from 1800mhz to 1480 without any reason, temperature is 54° and the game goes down to 50-53 fps the really interesting part, if i deactivate vsync at this moment, the graphics card wont clock up BUT i got 90-100 fps, buuuuut its stutters so hard, it feels like 30 or less, but it shows up 90-100 in the corner, if i reactivate vsync, it goes down to ~50 again, regardless if i in any menu or ingame. pc specs: i7 3820 (overclocked 4,5ghz watercooled), 1080ti Asus strix, 16gb ram (sry for my english, not my native language :) )
