I was very interested in the beginning of the game, the story was awesome, the robot dinos were pretty cool. But as I progress I just start feeling like this is a sci fi far cry.
I just find exploring this world feels rather dull. Most of the robots are bullet sponges aside from their weak points. I find the skills to be fairly useless for the most part aside from a select few. Merchants all sell the same exact thing.
IDK what it is but I definitely don't think I'll be able to beat the game, I feel like after a few more hours into it I might give up unless the story gets really good. I'm only level 23 I think, but I just can't quite get into it.
What do you all feel about the game?

Edited by dova spook: 9/3/2017 10:40:42 PMI thought the game was very good, well thought out, and well executed. Perhaps fight can grow routine, but they didn't for me.

Couldn't agree more. Story was cool but actually playing the game was dull and boring. Combat was shallow and simple. If there would have been a stamina meter on the roll it would have helped the combat but without that it's a rolling simulator.

Overrated is the word.

1 ReplyThe story is amazing, if you're getting bored stop running all the side errands and bullshit and just run the main quest line. Won't take you too long to finish and it's excellent IMO.

.... Shut....the..... -blam!-....up

Breath of the wild is much better

Edited by Veration: 9/1/2017 8:44:57 PMI began playing the game on Ultra Hard two months ago and stopped promptly from how boring it was. The game was relatively challenging on the hardest difficulty, but not too many problems, aside from me going into the first Cauldron under leveled and with no supplies. That took a while. It was mostly the horrible voice acting, ham-fisted writing and Aloy's frog-face that made me stop playing. It also felt like a Ubisoft game that looked nicer. The quests were just fetching plants and flowers in a forest while crouching in bushes to hide from monsters. The combat was rolling left and right and getting hits for minuscule damage until I'm out of arrows. At that point, I just run away and make more arrows and repeat. My first Sawtooth took 10 minutes to kill, and I didn't die.

I felt that way initially kinda stopped playing and then dicided to give it another go. I an so glad that I did. The later missions, scenery etc. were really fun. Had several wow monents! Don't give up, see it through the end. I instantly preordered the DLC upon completion.
-
No, I found it fun. I preordered the dlc for Nov. Also.

1 ReplyI see you also like to express your distaste in a Sony exclusive....

4 RepliesI agree. The game can be very boring at times. There is a strong emphasis on the robo-dinos. Learning their weak spots and exploiting them with the right weapons is massively important. The problem is, that while this is enjoyable for the first few times, by the 10th or more time you go to take down an enemy (say a thundermaw), you already know what to do...so the process of combat isn't interesting. It becomes a chore, rather than a challenge. Combine this with the fact that there are just way too many enemies in the open world. Say you need to go from point A to B, and there are a horde of enemies in between, you have 3 options: 1) Combat - which had become boring. 2) Stealth - waiting in grass gets boring. 3) Bolt - just run past everything and take some damage. Options 1 and 2 get in the way of you progressing the story (which is what is most important in a narrative driven game). Option 3 isn't enjoyable either. What you are left with is a set of mechanics that keep you from enjoying the game...thus boredom ensues. Granted, the game does have its high points, but there is just too much pointless busy work at times; further, the act of exploration can be annoying as all hell due to the previously mentioned issues. Not a bad game overall, but of the 60 hours I played, I can honestly say that I didn't enjoy at least half of it.

I agree its just Ubisoft's greatest hits.
-
Damn why is this so accurate as to why I stopped playing? Lol I haven't even done the very last story quest yet because I've just been knocking out side quests. Just planning on getting the Shield Weaver armor and put the game away until the dlc drops.

4 RepliesEdited by ABeardedViking: 8/30/2017 6:14:56 AMI loved HZD and cant wait to for the DLC. I put about 90 hrs into the base game. I belive I was close to level 30 before I even tackled the story. Just ran around exploring the beautiful world and getting all the collectibles.Far from boring for me. Also bullet sponges? are we playing the same game? There is a perk in the skill tree that allows you to call some enemies over and kill them instantly with a stealth kill. Human enemies are pretty sad and can be killed with one head shot from your arrow. Also use traps and go for weak spots and you can take down enemies pretty quick. But hey games doen't have to be for everyone
-
You just described every open world game lol.

4 RepliesCareful, you're treading dangerous territory by talking bad about that game. The reasons why you dislike it are one of the reasons i chose not to purchase. I just know I'll get bored fast. I no longer care for narrative driven games. Then if the main game loop doesn't draw me in like *snaps* that i just won't enjoy it much. It's a "been there done that" type of game for me

1 ReplyFinish. The. Story. At. Least.
and. Get. The. ShieldWeaver.
-
2 RepliesThe weak points are the point of the combat. You're hitting metal with other metal shot with string...how much damage do you expect to do without going for weak points? I regularly use all of the weapons and traps (except that shit bomb slingshot). I hated the combat before I learned how to exploit the weaknesses and use the traps.

I think I'm near the end of the game. I got side tracked by other games, and as much as I want to go back and finish, I don't have it in me to do so. The game was great, but everything OP described is about exactly how I feel.
-
I liked it, and yeah if you don't go for crits they'll make you use EVERYTHING elemental damage is really good too though, can set up for pretty decent damage
-
It's a good collectathon type of game. The story is interesting, but not that great in the end imo. It won't hold your interest if you aren't interested in the gameplay aspects(combat, exploration).
-
Personally the concept doesn't interest me at all, but to each their own
-
It's not for everyone. I really enjoyed the game! Looking forward to the dlc.
-
Not for me, then again I love open world games, robots and dinosaurs.
-
I thought it was great. I never got bored and explored every part of that map. To each their own I guess.

It really depends on the gamer.
