Fixed by trying several VPNs Betternet was the one that worked for me. Some more info for Bungie: Trying to play Strike without VPN after clearing the intro mission lets me get in to an empty map without any enemies and trying to progress is impossible, I can see a feed of teammates (ex: teammate has died) and there are occasional reconnecting messages that teleport me around when I reconnect. Trying to play Crucible without VPN gets me the error Moose when I get matched and try to load in to the game. Created character, went through first cutscene, loading screen, second cutscene, loading screen, then I'm greeted by: ERROR You have been returned to orbit. Please try again. If this problem persists, you should troubleshoot your networking setup. For more information, visit help.bungie.net and search for error code: spinach Dismissing brings me back to title screen and selecting a character brings me back to the second cutscene and the same error afterwards. So far, I've tried uninstalling hamachi, opening all ports for destiny2.exe with firewall, port forwarding the required ports, using my laptop, restarting computer, restarting blizzard app, restarting game and restarting router.
