Free to play / microtransactions

I have to get this off my chest. I absolutely despise microtransactions & most free to play games. Microtransactions is such a scourge it has seep into our $60 single player games. It's such a contagious disease that it's even affect the Real world. The model of pay to bypass the wait is now in our theme parks. Next will probably affected DMVs pay an extra $100 to get in the express lane to bypass wait. My only real issue with microtransactions is when game developers don't understand how to use them properly. Take Planetside 2. That game could've been a lot more successful except they put basically everything behind huge walls of either time or money, while simultaneously not actually having much content. The most effective form of MTs is to give a large amount of content (even if mostly small) that people can obtain regularly through playtime or spend a small amount of money to obtain instantly. Some developers don't seem to realize that the bigger the wall is between the player and the item, the less likely the players is to want to get past that wall (through scaling or knocking it down). You have to allow them to easily get to the point where it isn't an instant burden or tedious to accomplish. This is only in regards to games that allow players to gain items through playtime, though. MTs that exist solely to be bought don't really count, as players don't associate the items directly with playing the game. Long story short, I just find annoyingly bad business decisions to be aggravating to witness. It sucks when a game I like crashes because the developers were too stupid to understand the nuances of consumer motivations.
