Some Questions for FPS Fans

What do you prioritize in a competitive FPS? Do you like twitch shooters or tactical shooters more(CSGO vs R6S)? Do you want a large number of weapons that are very customizable, or just a few balanced ones (CoD vs Halo)? Do classes have a place in your ideal shooter? Do you want objectives, or is killing the other team enough? Finally, how many players should be in a match/team?

  • My ideal FPS would be... - 8v8 except for doubles and competitive playlists - Slightly slow paced and very tactical (communication recommended) - 4 or 5 classes - Heavily objective based - About as many guns as Titanfall 2, which are customizable to the point of putting on accents and letters

  • I prefer smooth gunplay and movement. Being able to maneuver and shoot without fighting against the environment or controls is a must. I prefer a higher number of weapons but less customization options to avoid over complicating the loadout selection process. Something like the Division at its best mixed with Halo and Titanfall.

  • Smooth gunplay and movement, speed doesn't matter as long as it is smooth, weapons that can't be customized to further balance/ make balancing easier, no classes, option for either tdm or an objective, and 4-6 people per team.

  • I enjoy games with a quick time to kill, I'm off the likes of Halo. I prefer Titanfall 2 and Doom. Quick paced, fast kills, blood and gore. I prefer a lot of customisation, Doom is the example I would use, I have no issue with classes, and anything from 8v8 to 32v32 is fine by me.

  • I prefer Halo style FPS games, with a slower time to kill, vehicles on occasion, and weapons scattered/hidden around the map.

Comp means ziltch to me. Question 2: No. Question 3: A few balanced weapons. Question 4: In some games I don't care for classes. I find them extremely restrictive in terms of how you can play. Question 5: I like a variety of modes to choose from. Question 6: This one's a little tough. I guess it really depends on the game.

  • I like two types of fps the most (although I'm open to many different styles): Battlefield and overwatch. I loved BF4 and conquest matches on hardcore mode. I liked how strategy mattered, but on a much larger scale, the much more interactive maps, the vehicles, the weapons. It all felt amazing. As for overwatch, I enjoy its smaller more quick and tactical strategy paired with strong necessity for teamwork. Team fights in OW are amazing with their organization, yet keeping a feeling of chaos as everything erupts around you while you focus on your target.

  • Titanfall 2 is my ideal shooter. I finf the faster it is. The better I am. Id prefer something with more pve content tho as well as more progression.

  • The biggest thing for me is a probably a sense of practiced deliberateness being clearly rewarded. There isn't really a metric associated with it, nor does it have to do with the number of "right" or "wrong" ways to play a game. It could be launching someone in the air with a rocket and then pinning them to the ceiling with a lightning gun or being able to shoot a rocket at a person's destination pre-preemptively in quake. It could be perfectly bouncing a pop flash into people's faces or throwing a smoke on the bomb, tapping it, walking out, and then killing the enemy as they run to stop the defuse in CS. It could be hitting three moving targets from a mile away in ARMA. It's being able to see countless hours of practice and experience manifesting itself in a buttery smooth display of invested time paying off.

  • The closer the game gets to old school Quake or Unreal Tournament, the better

  • I wouldn't necessarily prefer something more tactical, but definitely something that requires a thought beyond "shoot bad dudes." Why not both? A large and well balanced arsenal. There's no reason you can't have both. It depends what kind of classes. If it was like specialized units, Battlefields medics or scouts for example, I'd be okay with that. I think a healthy mixture of objective based and team-killing based gameplay is my preference. I think that the amount of team members should be strictly based on how big you pan to make your arenas. If you have large, open expanses like in Battlefield you'll need more players to populate it. If you're going for a much smaller arena, something in a typical modern fps, than something around 8-16 would be fine. Honestly, give me Titanfall on crack and I'll be good.

  • I enjoy high HP, tactical games that offer class differences in health and stats and customization of the class more than just perks. like health speed, shields, scanning, equipment. without class restrictions to gear or weapons for the most part. (Heavies get heavy weapons at a cost to speed mobility and larger hit box) but a light can get a shotgun, sniper, AR, grenade launcher just the same as a medium or heavy classs.

I like twitch/tacticool shooters equally. I like gun customization/variety/limited-yet- balanced guns equally. Yet I only TDM or SnD. Never cared for any other game mode like Control/Domination or Kill Confirmed or King of the Hill etc. And depending on the game, I like either 4v4 (Halo) or 6v6 (CoD).

    • I prefer Siege over CS, but not for the reason of it being tactical. I think Valve doesn't care about their community anymore. Time to change my status...

      • First off, PvE focus more than PvP. My favorite fps of all time is borderlands 2. I liked the character build trees where you can reset the skill points for different builds. I liked farming certain bosses for certain weapons. I liked the whole concept to the game. I would of liked more character customization. Maybe upgrade weapon parts too.

        • Arena FPSs are the pinnacle of competitive shooters, imo. Equal starts, a modest selection of fun to use but balanced weapons and a focus on gun skill.

          • Honestly I'm more into Battle Royale games ATM. I've been playing the shit out of PUBG and H1Z1. I like how every game is different. The ending is always in a different place, you may loot new places every match and the weapons you pick up are completely random so you're not using the same thing over and over again.

          • Depends. I like Halo 5 Warzone because you can be very strategic by capturing bases and stuff while also having a big war scene and just killing the other team. I like Titanfall because you kill people with parkour and robots, 'nuf said. I like Star Wars Battlefront because it's a Star Wars FPS. And I like Destiny because it has cool guns and loot.

          • It depends on my mood. Sometimes I want Halo, sometimes I want Call of Duty, sometimes I want Star Wars Battlefront, and sometimes I want Overwatch.
