Darkdrinker is Overrated for Aksis (Yes I Know None of This Matters)

Just a friendly PSA to the raid meta crowd because the Darkdrinker requirement is a bit too Crota-ish for me (lol) Hawkmoon, Found Verdict, and a god-roll Warpath (on my hunter) or Hezen Vengeance all day, and I'd recommend Warpath over Vengeance due to the better rate of fire. You say you wanna maximize Aksis damage but then you're empowered right for the last teleport and he goes left, but you also have to slam right plate, and now you, along with probably half the team, are spending 5 seconds jumping over to the left to do damage with a sword, meanwhile I've already fired off three of my rockets (seven on Hunter, eight for Warlock or Titan). I can get closer to Aksis with each rocket fired, and then when I'm out of heavy it's full auto shotgun filthiness until he stabilizes. Datto's little math equation doesn't factor in actually having to travel to Aksis. And Found Verdict still melts Captains just like they did in Skolas. That's all. Anyone else tired of the "Must have Darkdrinker" nonsense?

  • While I don't agree with requirements I can understand why some people have them because let's face it nobody likes raiding with people who don't know how to play especially when they hide it that only makes people angrier I'll be honest right now if someone messages me and says that they don't know it right from the start I'm more than willing to give them a couple chances and even explain it all to them but when they come in and say they know what to do but clearly don't for example I know what to do then sprays scorch cannon at first scorch servitor that's what people don't like even some of the bigger raiders will explain if you just say you don't know because when you come in and say you do but clearly don't it ruins everyone's mood

  • tl;dr requirements for weapons/level are a crutch imo. Adapt as gamers. If a group requires a certain weapon to run with them, they need to put the games down and find a new hobby. I'm 33 years old, have been a gamer since I was six and personally believe this "must have this weapon/be this light level" garbage is just to mask how weak most gamers have become. I'm not saying that levels or weapons don't help but needing them just means you don't have faith in your team or the skill to adapt and adjust as a player....something that used to be required in games. Take Mega man X from the Super Nintendo for example, before learning weaknesses and such players had to rely on tactics and skill to dodge attacks. Learn patterns for strategy. It's the same with Destiny and other games. We all know at Vosik, throw siva bombs to drop his shield then damage. Rinse and repeat as needed. Yet now it's "must have this/that". Why? Are you really that bad of a player??

Honestly never seen a post say "Must have Darkdrinker". I've seen must have GHorn, ToM, Spindle, Sleeper, but WotM requirements are normally "just know what tf you're doing".

        • But who doesnt like doing the Legend of Zelda Spin attack? I mean come on thats the best part of dark drinker! In all seriousness any group that says "Insert weapon name" required are groups im not fan of. I had ghally for all year 1 raids and yea it was OP but it wasnt a deciding factor. Just use weapons that are good and Id say lets do this.

          • M8 dark drinker does the best dps, is great for captains. And is basically easy mode because pretty much requires no aiming.

          • must have dark drinker is a joke. you get 5 damage phases to kill him. thats generous as hell. and there are groups who say "could be better" if he's above half health after the first phase. ridiculous. pve elitists are wild

            • Dark drinker and one young wolfs howl and we can get aksis down to under 20% health in one challenge mode damage phase. But, go ahead and use whatever you want.

              • What are you hitting Aksis with once you run out of your rockets? I kind of get the rocket launcher load-out (although I have seen plenty of people kill themselves with a mistimed rocket out of a bubble on a good run), but with the decreased ammo I would use a sniper here which then makes killing the captains an issue.

                • Warpath was the worst thing to ever happen to Aksis. A small damage increase in favor of an already established and well versed strategy brought death by Captains to an all time high. There is no quality of life with The Warpath. The end.

                  • Doesn't matter at all what you use aksis is easy The exotic sword is the best for in general use as its good for captains + ammo reserves and can be combined with a god roll sniper since you won't need a shotgun Truth be told the best loadouts would be 3 darkdrinkers with god roll snipers and 3 war paths with godroll shotguns Swords get captains to make everything easier/safer

                    • Your points are all valid, and in the right set of hands there are many weapon combinations that will get the job done. The point of the post is not whether drinker out performs all other options or not...it's about the level of commitment it takes to get an exotic sword....over having 150 marks to buy a warpath. The commitment also shows you MAY be more committed to finishing the raid, and not rage quitting. Plus if you run drinker you know you will have to get close fast, and that means no wasting time, and raid teams like that. Plus if your shooting rockets from left and the team is taking first pillar on right now your the one rushing over and putting the round at risk. Not to mention if your rocketing from a distance, your not taking advantage of the possible bubble. Last but not least...your team is up front in the trenches...meanwhile your in the rear with the gear...

Exotic primary are useless in raids. Other than Touch of Malice.

                      • I've got no problem with the shotgun and rocket launcher, but please, for the love of God, convince me why I should waste my exotic slot on Hawkmoon. There are plenty of really good legendary primary options. Try this, Fatebringer, Fourth Horseman, Warpath. I would almost guarantee I just increased your DPS.

Having a sword is nice for taking down the captains though. I don't even have a Dark Drinker and still did it a couple times. My favorite was when I instructed and led a team on how to complete the challenge mode and we did it then realizing I've never actually completed it before even though I could have sworn I did.
