I live in the USA, and I love my country, so naturally, when people just come out of the blue to insult it and be assholes, its kind of offensive. Mostly these are Europeans or Canadians, which puzzles me even further, considering we are all allies and that the USA has bailed Europe out of assured destruction by Germany/Soviet Union(take your pick), not to mention has setup the UN, also helped in WW1, helped to protect Europe during the Cold War, and has done numerous other things that are quite good, so I don't get why Europeans always have to be such assholes to us just because the occasional American loves their country(though, in many cases the person is being a bit of a dick by declaring the US better than another's country).
And as for Canada, we're brothers m8, we're like the goddamn dynamic duo. Together, we're unstoppable, so I don't see why some of you(though for the most part not many) are so anti-American either.
also, I'm not gonna try and deny tho that the USA didn't -blam!- up many many countries during the Cold War, but in certain cases it was at the pressure OF THE EUROPEANS, such as Iran where Britain convinced us that their leader was becoming communist, when in reality they were salty because Iran nationalized their order. Then we did a joint coup and some other bad stuff... my point is, even the US has some bad stuff in its history

and if you go back far enough, some REALLY bad stuff in its history... like genocide....
1 ReplyEdited by Cultmeister: 8/13/2017 11:07:38 AMYou guys have no sense of tact. Everything good you do is always the most amazing thing ever, and you deny everything bad you've ever done as a conspiracy theory, or you attack the critic. Us brits know we've been a piece of shit country in the past, and that makes our patriotism stronger because we believe in progressing.

2 RepliesI'd say it got progressively worse when the Cheney Administration acted unilaterally and invaded Iraq. Especially when they made it clear before the election they wanted to invade. I think only Americans bought into the WMD lie. Not to mention the whole "you're either with us or against us" nonsense. They probably see as somewhat bullies doing whatever we want. Also, I think you're looking at history woth American eyes. The CIA was a major factor in the coup in Iran, the British played a role but the CIA were the ones that planned it and facilitated it, the British mostly just threw in some money. Also, would WWII habr played out the same if the Russians weren't pushing the Germans from the East? It was just the US that won that war. And the world probably looks down on us for our double standards. For instance always protecting Israel at the U.N. all the shady people we give money and weapons to....look at our ally Turkmenistan - they banned video games, car radios, the opera and ballet..... Not to mention our past several wars/conflicts were situations we created. -1st Iraq war we knew whay Saddam was doing but didn't care because he was fighting Iran. It wasn't until the cold war was over and we needed a new threat to justify the huge defense spending he was a problem. -Nicarauga. The president refused to give the Canal Zone back to us and died in a plane crash, our asset and head of the military, Manuel Noriega took over and we didn't care about what he did until he stopped listening to us and started talking about the US/CIA involvement in South and Central America. Then suddenly he was a threat to us and we had to invade. Then when the press asked, afterwards, how was he a threat we shrugged and said he was a tyrant and we liberated a lot of people (oh, and 75% of the casualties were civillians) -Afgjamistan. Was created while bin Laden was on the CIA payroll fighting the Russians on Afghanistan for us. Not to mention Afghanistan actually offered to hand bin Laden over to us after 9/11 if we could show them proof he was responsible. Instead we bombed them. And look up Karzai's brother. He took over the heroin industry there and there have been at least two incidents where the US military intercepted tons of heroin only to just give it back to him. The rest of the world probably doesn't see us as the shining light of freedom like Americans romanticize.

If its coming from a Brit, its usually not genuine hate. Ripping on people is a sign of affection over here. That being said, you didnt do as much during WW2 as you seem to think. The Soviets absorbed the brunt of Hitlers attack, and then pushed back once they'd broken it. Historically speaking, Russia are the reason Hitler was ultimately defeated.

25 RepliesI find American patriotism both scary, and hilarious. You guys go f*cking crazy when someone drops your flag on the ground.

5 RepliesProbably has something to do with: A. One of your wonderful compatriots shot my neighbours horse thinking it was a moose. A horse looks nothing like a moose. B. One of your wonderful citizens came to Calgary and shot a local because they "felt threatened". In Calgary. Threatened. Riiiiiiight. What the -blam!- are you even doing with a handgun in Canada? It's Canada. C. America really is the bully of the world. Especially with Trump at the helm. Could you guys at least leash the guys yip? D. You claim to be the land of the free, but shackle your citizens with ridiculous laws and taxes. Why the -blam!- does anybody care what Jenny does with her fetus'? Isn't she a "free" person? In fact doesn't paying taxes make you a slave to the government? Seen as how they can take away your "freedom" if you don't pay them? If someone can take something away from you it was never really yours to begin with.

I'm Canadian and I appreciate America. I haven't met very many people who talk shit about the US. I'm not going to pretend I know anything about this situation either, just thought i would show off how Canadian I am

1 ReplyAs a European, sometimes you guys piss me off because ye are so loud. I was in a pub the other day, and there was a group of Americans there that had to make themselves heard.
-
3 RepliesThe problem probably stems from the fact that all the good stuff you did was before our time, and that in living memory you've kind of acted like total asshats.

I guess it comes down to the rest of the world finding us really annoying, what with the whole "USA! USA!" thing we have going. Plus with Donald Trump in office I'm sure that makes even our closest allies at least slightly nervous, as he doesn't even respect part of the US's population, so why should they be fine with that?

8 RepliesEdited by TheArtist: 8/11/2017 11:36:48 AMSometimes the best friend you can have is the guy who is willing to pat you on the back when you deserve it....and give you a swift kick in the ass because you NEED it. ...and right now we are country that is real need of someone willing to give us that kick in the ass. Just like the current occupant in the White House is in desperate need of someone with the balls to tell him "NO....you can't have that.", and "NO....you can't do that." Or have you failed to notice that all this "Anti-Americanism" always pops up when we put a Republican in the White House...and we stop acting like "First Among Eqauls" with our friends and allies. But instead start acing like. "We're 'Murica. We can do whatever we want. Lets go start a war somewhere so people remember not to -blam!- with us....." Maybe. But then don't expect the rest of the world to accept our acting like Bulls in a China Shop without complaint. Especially when they have to live with the consequences of OUR policies.
