Yessss another sorta Halo vs CoD thread.
Don't get me wrong I prefer Halo over CoD any day.
But my CoD friend pointed out to me yesterday that Emile's face from Reach and Ghost's face from Modern warfare 2 both have the similar concept of a hidden face with a skull. I have never thought about it before, but he had a point.
Both characters also hold that 'Strong/ Silent' trait about them.
This in no way affect my opinion of Bungie and I'm not saying 'they copied IW'. But it's just an interesting observation.
Thoughts?
EDIT: settle down guys, I'm not jumping up and down waving my arms around saying "HALO COPIED CoD!!!"... Imo CoD copied more of halo all up. To me this was just an interesting comparison.
EDIT#2:

Cod mw2 in development since mid 2008.
Reach in development since mid 2007.
You do the math.
Good point TangentialShark. But how can you be certain that from the very start of Emile's design he always had that skull on his visor... food for thought.
It's just a skull. Soldiers, warriors, and fighters all use skulls as a way to demoralize their opponent or scare them. It's just psychological warfare and just because one character has something that stands out doesn't mean they're ripping off of something.

Because the title of your thread and the way you even word your original post does seem to be all about the who "copied" who game. There is no such thing as a rip off or original character at this point. Something is always going to have had some inspiration behind it. Guess what neither Emile or Ghost, or Dutch and Jim Rayor etc etc in the last 10 years were the first to sport skulls as a decoration to their gear nor were any video game characters for that matter even the source for that concept.
-
They're both the same person. Theories? Go.
-
Ghost was just a way of putting the same voice actor with the same quotes (he is the SaS multiplayer announcer in both mw games) into mw2 without actually trying. in other words, iw got lazy. gaz>>>>>>>>>ghost. more personality. but anyway, Emile would be cooler in my opinion, but he is kind of a jerk.
-
I always thought it was a wolf.
-
Oh Really...Ghost Must be a wrip off Ghost Rider..Shut your Yap OP
-
personally i think they both got the idea from skeletor. my theory is all the devs involved grew up in the he-man age, and saw the opportunity..
-
Not if he used that shotgun, it has almost no range!
-
Bungie started reach game three years ago infinity ward started MW2 two years ago figure it uot
-
Does EVERYTHING with a skull all on it all of a sudden become a Ghost Rip-Off? It's about as much of an exuse as saying Halo is like CoD because of Sprint. Which isn't saying much.
-
Two completely different characters with the same gole: save their army, Emile had the earth, ghost had the americans, skull or not, they are not the same. ghost's is more of a realistic skull, emiles is cooler looking. personally i think it doesnt fit in with the whole halo genre, doesnt seem like something a spartan would do to their helmet?
-
silly noob
-
Halo and CoD copied Rival Schools! lol I'm kidding, but seriously the idea isn't new. People have been putting skulls on helmets for a long time.
Posted by: SP4C3GH0ST17 ghost wasnt silent at all

Posted by: PinkPanther4125 no, but if he was I wouldn't care. Ghost was a badass, regardless if you like COD or not.
I completely agree with you there. He was the -blam!-. But regardless, skulls are universal. It's not a CoD vs. Halo thing, it's a military thing. That's it.
-
They're both rip offs from gears of war
-
Halo Reach has been under development since Halo 3 was released. I'm not sure what that mean but "maybe" I'm on to something. ;)
-
But Halo's an actual good game. I love Ghost though. He's my favorite CoD character.
-
Emile > Ghost
-
I think they tried too hard to make Emile the badass. I think he looks pretty damn stupid with the skull on his visor.
-
Avatar ripped off of Ghost.
-
if you ask me, Emile is more of a Rip-off of the GOW logo, due to the fact that the skull logo for GOW strongly resembles Emiles. or vice-versa
-
Skull decal: Maybe Personality: Not even close.
-
They're the same person, clearly, meaning that it is not infact a rip-off, but a continuation of one epic characters story line!
-
Ghost is Dead Emile isnt
-
... It's a goddamn helmet. Who cares? Look, the only reason people make these threads is to prove to themselves that they like Reach better. Seriously, who cares if some 11 year old kid doesn't like Reach?... he's a kid. Who cares. Just move on. Really, just please stop making these threads.
