Tripwire Interactive has confirmed that their game, Killing Floor 2, will run at native 1800p rather than true 4K due to significant frame rate drop.

This seems to beg the question- is the Xbox One X already out of date? It’s not even out yet, and it’s already having trouble running games at 4K (which is what it is being marketed as being able to do), at the START of its life cycle.
That being said, it DOES have better graphics than the standard Xbox One, and the developer even says the Xbox One X “was a very smooth and easy platform to develop for. It took very little engineering effort to get our base Xbox One game running on the Xbox One X. It took maybe 4 hours of programming effort total”.
This is concerning news for potential Xbox One X buyers, but does it bother you?

Killing floor is aiming for 60fps, not 30. The X can't run a GAME at native 4k at 60, because the CPU isn't quute good enough, from what I've seen.
-
Sounds like the Devs aren't willing to commit
-
1 Reply1800 p is just about 4k. Do the math
-
They should quit being lazy/incompetant and optimize. If Shadow of War can run at native 4K, so can this piece of shit looking zombie shooter lol.

Edited by crazeeavery: 8/7/2017 3:35:26 PMThe issue is simple.. It's the out of date CPU. Compared to a desktop CPU, the Xbox One X's CPU will be a substantial bottleneck. The eight Jaguar CPU cores will offer one-half to one-third the performance of AMD's new Ryzen CPUs...It roughly equals the performance of an Intel i3 CPU. http://www.pcgamer.com/heres-how-microsofts-xbox-one-x-compares-to-a-pc/

5 RepliesSo one game isn't doing 4k so you imply it's out of date and cause for concern?
-
Sounds more like a dev problem 🤔

1 ReplySounds more like a dev problem. So no this does not concern me.

2 RepliesEdited by Psychic Donuts: 8/6/2017 7:45:34 AMNope. Killing Floor isn't even that great looking. They just aren't great at optimizing. Turn 10, Respawn, Monolith, etc, etc all are doing amazing things with the X. Respawn got a test build of Titanfall 2 running at like 6k or something ridiculous because they do dynamic res.

It used to be the consoles were out for about 8-10 years (rough numbers) and the developers would learn over time how to squeeze more out of them and make more visually demanding games run well on older tech. It would seem that as the Xbox one X launches some developers rather take the easy route of tapping into the raw power for a minor upgrade (4 hours of coding) versus optimizing and getting even more out of the box. I can see the easy route more profitable for developers and if this becomes a trend (more frequent iterations of consoles versus optimization of software) these sort of statements will paint a less clear image of what the consoles are capable of. Some good examples are Elder Scrolls oblivion and Splinter Cell Double Agent on the launch side of the Xbox 360 versus Splinter Cell Black List and Skyrim towards the end of the console life cycle.

1 ReplyWell if they only spent 4 hours on it then they didn’t really take time optimizing anything. Not saying that would help but is something to consider
-
1 ReplyNow i don't care that it's not 4k (1800p is still good), but it sounds like the didn't even take the time to optimize the game. Then Scorpio doesn't launch till like Oct or Nov so they got time.
-
11 RepliesWell most games on it aren't going to run native 4k. Most of the are checkerboard, dynamic, enhanced, true. None of which means native. They -blam!-ed up at E3 saying 4k 60 uncompromised. Even crackdown 3 isn't 4k 60. They should have advertised it as 4k capable on some titles.

Nah I'm good, imma get it. I have one of the original X1s and it's starting to die I think... Though from what I know, this is one Dev and they were using the ultimate settings or something, the very top, so they were pushing the hardware to its limits. Most games will likely still be able to push native 4K or at least most coming out next year and onwards... Regardless, everything will still look and run better on the Scorpio than on the standard X1 or the slim.

3 Replies*J Jonah Jameson Laughing* But seriously, i hate all the "MUSH HAVE 4K!!!" Whiners

1 ReplyWhat's the killing floor 2
-
Edited by eviltedi: 8/5/2017 9:07:53 AMWhilst I'm a little disappointed at it not running in 4K, we all knew not every game would run at 4K naitive on the Scorpio. We know some will and some won't. I also read that Phil Spencer said it was up to the developers what to do. On the up side, they got Killing Floor 2 up and running in 4 hours or less, and at 1800p naitive. Not too shabby at all.

My four-year-old CPU is still more powerful than what's in the xbone x (read: i7-4930k). Doesn't surprise me that it can't do 4k.
-
I just want more graphical fidelity and not necessarily resolution upgrades
-
3 RepliesFar from out dated.
-
2 RepliesMeh. 4k is over hyped. It's for those who put money where there mouth is. I just want to play a decent game without shit tier gameplay.
-
This seems to beg the question- is the Xbox One X already out of date?
It's a console of course it's going to be a few years out of date on arrival and more so with time. As far as resolution goes it's a fight between distances, content, graphics and fps. Lowering distance and graphics increase fps while too much content on the screen at one time can also lower fps.

I mean, Microsoft have stated time and time again that it's up to developers on how they utilize it's powers. They did say that while running it in 4K, the frame rate dropped a lot, so they went the 1800p route instead.
