Protectors of Light Ch. 16: A New Kind of Defender

Angel walked away, collecting all of the Void Light that she could muster into her hands. Logan tilted his head in confusion as he watched. "What... are you planning?" He asked as he followed behind. "Stay back," Angel replied. The titaness turned to the two ghosts watching. "Alice, Merlin... prep for resurrection..." Logan spun around to his ghost, then back to his girlfriend. "Angel? What are you planning?!" "Don't worry, Babe, you've survived worse, I'm sure..." Angel said with a sly smile. "I've survived worse?!" The warlock exclaimed, growing more concerned by the second. The titaness gathered all of her Light into her hand, then threw it into the world like a cannon. Logan shrieked as he curled up into a ball, after seeing the orb of Void Light traveling at him. "If you were trying to kill him, you did a poor job..." Merlin said, apathetic to his Guardian being put in harm's way. "I wasn't trying to kill him!" Angel cheerfully yelled as she ran over to the group. "I can't believe it worked!" Logan peaked his head out of his arms, then stood up. He was in awe; a miniature Ward of Dawn was formed around him. "I'll be d***ed, it worked!" The warlock exclaimed. "I know! I know! It worked!" Angel hopped around, despite wearing full plasteel armor. "You threw a miniature Ward of Dawn!" Alice exclaimed as she flew around Angel's head. "I didn't know that was possible!" The glowing ghost continued to cheer excitedly. "So..." Logan started. "How do I get out of this?..." he asked after placing his arm against the interior wall of the shield, and crossing his feet. Alice's and Angel's celebration came to a halt; they didn't think about that. Suddenly, the ward evaporated, and Logan fell to his face. Angel covered her mouth to keep from laughing. "Never mind..." Logan groaned. Two hours later, the two Guardians and their ghosts finally drained the arena of the melted ice. And now, they walked back to the living room. "So, I heard 'bout yer achievement, Lassie," Nick said as he was watching tv. "Uh... How long have you been here?..." Angel asked before looking to Logan. "All mornin'. Why?" The old hunter asked in return. "I just assumed... that you would have returned to your home by now..." Angel continued, trying to sound as polite as possible. "Me home?! Are ya daft? It's marked; t'at bloody bas**** knows I live t'ere now! I can't go back..." Nick flipped the lever of the recliner and got comfortable. "That sounds like a load of bull..." Logan softly whispered into Angel's ear. "Plus, I jus' star-ted a new ep'sode of 'Vanguard: Buried City'..." Nick continued while placing his hands under his head. Logan dropped his head and smirked. "All right... I'm goin' back to the arena..." he said before pivoting on one foot and walking away. Angel gawked, but chased after the warlock. "So..." Logan stated as he kicked his bo-staff up to his grasp. "Wanna rematch?" Angel placed her hands on her hips. "Excuse me, I think I won last time..." the titaness replied as she recalled punching the man square in his nose. "Actually, the score was a tie. Logan had two marks before you were able to recover..." Merlin stated matter-of-factly. Logan turned to his girlfriend and smiled. "Oh... Well... Details aren't important..." Angel shook her arms, causing her plasteel armor to clatter. "Give me a challenge this time!" Logan bowed, then launched a combo of attacks with his preferred weapon of choice. To both Guardians' astonishment, Angel's developing reflexes allowed her to deflect all five blows before punching the warlock in the gut. Logan skidded back before reacquiring his balance. Alice and Merlin looked to each other and nodded with approval. "One, nothing..." Angel said with a smile. Logan spun his staff around, then stood in an overly dramatic pose. "Your move," Angel charged forward, throwing several jabs, that Logan was capable of knocking away. The titaness, then, threw a hard left cross into the Guardian's cheek, that sent him stumbling to the ground. "Two, nothin'..." Angel said again. "Silajir, you disappoint me!" Merlin shouted from the sidelines. "It's not his fault; he's trying his best..." Angel said to Merlin mockingly. "Not entirely..." Logan replied after shifting his jaw back into place. He had conjured a portal to the Void, unknown to Angel, while standing back up. Logan ran at Angel, but when the titaness gripped the staff to claim it, Logan used his momentum to spin around and throw Angel through the portal. She screamed as she passed out of this realm, and into the cold between stars. The Guardian popped out of the other portal, skidding across her back. After coming to a stop, Angel split her hair and revealed her shocked face. "Clever..." she stated before taking Logan's hand and getting back up. "Two, one?" Logan asked. "Fine. Two, one..." Angel answered reluctantly. After the two Guardians got re-situated, Logan attacked again, using his neck as a pivot to swing his staff quickly. Angel leaned back, as if playing limbo, then used her jetpack to jump into the air and crane kick the warlock in the face. Logan was launched back a good two feet, landing on his front; he tried to push himself up before his body finally gave up. He was unconscious. "Uh... Logan?..." Angel asked after dropping back to the ground. "Three, one..." Merlin added after looking up from his motionless Guardian.
