Hello,
I am heavily interested in Destiny 2 but I have some concerns that I hoped some more avid fans of the first game/those who participated in the D2 beta could appease. Sniping always was a very appealing aspect of destiny for me and I really wanted to use sniper rifles as my main weapon for PvP. I heard that sniper rifles got moved to the heavy weapon category and from what I've read, ammo for that specific category is sparse. Will this make sniper rifles as a main weapon in PvP obsolete?
P.S. I was also wondering which class/subclass would be best suited for sniping. Thank you all and any feedback (facts, opinion, speculation, etc.) is appreciated.
Edit: Seems like most people in this game have a bad taste in their mouths when it comes to snipers. I didn't realize that it was such a toxic topic as I have NOT played much of destiny 1 and I also don't know anything about it besides general info I've read up on the second game. Thank you to those who set aside my ignorance and actually gave me helpful responses.

Just stick around the power ammo when it's about to come in but still help out your team while you wait don't just sit next to the power ammo . it's not big deal I still got to use my sniper a fair amount of the time

If anything, running a Gunslinger in D2 would be the most beneficial to sniping, both perk paths have a lot of bonuses for precision kills. If you can land headshots dude, Gunslinger is the way to go.

2 RepliesNo 1 class is better than another at sniping. This isn't borderlands or any game similar to it, so it's up to you to see what class you like the most

16 RepliesIm a little perplexed by what you mean by using a sniper as your main weapon.. This is not likely in D2 PvP since snipers are a power weapon, and power ammo only comes up every minute or so, and only one person gets the power ammo. I also feel that PvP moved so differently in D2 then in D1, it is hard to snipe.. I did not try, since I found it silly.. and I hate snipers from all the lane camping bull shittery in D1. The map in the beta I felt didnt cater well to sniping anyhow.. It was smaller, and I felt the game play moved very fast on such a small map. There will be other maps and game modes, so I can not say if sniping will play better on other maps and in other game modes.. But then again, there is the issue of someone wanting to primarily snipe and trying to hog and waste the power ammo on sniping. So Id say no to sniping and try using a primary.

To weigh in, I've never considered any one class to be better suited for sniper rifles than the others. Taking abilities into consideration, I would imagine the Titan to having a possible advantage with the deployable cover. A player using the Titan could potentially move into an open area and deploy half-cover to use in combination with the sniper rifle. * Power weapon ammo will not be scarce in PvE activities. This was an issue that was already rectified.

Snipers in pvp will be like it is now pretty much, power ammo spawns pretty often. Though the target acquisition is much much weaker in D2. As for which class is better for snipping... it doesn't really matter. Titans could put up a wall for you to shot over/around. Hunters could dodge out of the line of fire after the take some shots. And warlocks can either heal themselves or buff their weapon damage. Be sides that I don't know of any perks or ability that directly effects using a sniper.

I want them to let everyone have the ammo liek current special, why everyone gets three shots in everything, and rockets still get one because they aren't even that good (at least what we)saw

Gunslinger hunter. Headshot synergy and reload class ability. Can't use as a primary new system makes the ammo near nonexistent in pvp.

1 ReplyEdited by Lordsa Jar-Jar: 8/3/2017 3:41:44 AM
Players in D2 definitely are not going to be able to main a sniper the whole match like in D1. Special weapons are going to actually be special.
This, you must understand something about D2, your primary is your PRIMARY. Not much room for sniping. Bungie considers all special and heavy weapons too op for us to use.

12 RepliesEdited by FileUrCompla1nt: 8/3/2017 9:02:31 AMany class really, it's all about your aim when sniping. Sniping won't be a big thing in D2 sadly, it was fun in D1 till Bungie destroyed all the good primary weapons then people started bitching about snipers. It's funny because the only time people really complained about snipers for the first year or two was final round, they were fine when we had decent primary weapons.

4 RepliesBro youre the problem
-
6 RepliesI think the point of it being heavy is to make it obsolete as a main weapon in Pvp, D1 Pvp just became sniper town
-
I like sniping too. Hopefully there are much better snipers than the one in the beta. The scope felt weird and I would really like a quicker ADS speed if we lose radar while ADSing.
-
Hahahahaha I wanted to main supers and rockets in D2 pvp and I heard they got a nerf. Hahahahaha

3 RepliesWhy is this being downvoted? People are ridiculous

Ask the gunsmith which class gets which special weapons (He knows whats up) Titan - shotgun - Immobius Warlock - fusion - Susanoo Hunter - sniper - Stillpiercer
-
Class choice has zero impact on any weapons, except small things like gunslingers getting increased reload speed on precision it, or sunsinger increasing reload speed on melee.
-
This is probably the best b8 I've ever seen...and it's most likely not intentional.
-
Probably Jäger.
-
Lore wise, the Hunters have always been the gunslingers and sharpshooters. Gameplay wise, Hunter abilities and skills have always benefited gunslinging and sharpshooting.
-
Just actively watch the power ammo and you will be able to snipe plenty on any game. That said, I'd recommend you picking up a scout rifle for when you don't have power ammo.
