  • In addition to what I've already said, just want to say I think you're way off on this one. Which I find disappointing because I usually agree with you.

  • Being concerned about public safety is stupid?

  • Is that stupid? Most people don't want beggars hanging around.

  • It's not even that, though! The main concern of it is public saftey.

  • How are we doing stupid things? It is an ordinance that prevents people from standing in a place that could be dangerous to drivers.

  • Maybe you guys should do something to actually help the homeless population, instead of cutting off a small income stream of theirs. The city of Anaheim has a homeless problem, especially near Disneyland. What did they do? Took out the bus stop benches so homeless people couldn't sleep there. They didn't increase funding to shelters, food banks, job placement programs, low income housing, or clinics for mental health and drug abuse. No, they could have done that, but instead they took out bus stop benches, which effects everyone.

  • But this isn't that! They can still stand on the side of the road and everything! Just not the median. And I live in Rhode Island. I dont know about where you live, but I personally know people on welfare with better phones then me, and have seen many more.

Do they not have a right to stand on public property? It's not like they're blocking roads.

  • I'm sorry it's not standing on the median. It's soliciting. Their knocking on windows and in general trying to get someone's attention could be distracting.

Their knocking on windows and in general trying to get someone's attention could be distracting.[/quote]Your argument has changed numerous times just in this thread. First it's that the median is unsafe to stand on. Now it's distracting drivers? This is a law that specifically targets the homeless. Don't pretend it's something else.

  • ITS THE SAME THING! it is unsafe because it distracts drivers. Benefits are here for the people that need them. It applies to all groups. Charities, fire fighters, girl scouts, so on, so on. I do agree we need to help our mentally I'll and our poor more, but this is not that! This is completely seperate.

  • Dude you just gotta let him go, he's so self righteous in helping out those who he thinks are in need that he can't even admit when a law is passed for legitimate public safety reasons
