Does anyone know if Bungie will shut the Halo 3 servers down like they did for Halo 2. Will Halo 3 be replaced totally by Reach or will halo 3 remain a classic?
-
Reach and halo 3 are on the same server. As explained, they cant shut down "One Part". If they shut down the Halo 3 servers, Reach goes down too. Therefore Halo 3 wont be going down until the next Xbox is developed. It has been said no new consoles are coming out for at least 5 years, maybe more. So you still have lots of time. And even at that, it took 4-5 years for the original Xbox servers to shut down. So you may well have 10 more years of Halo 3.

I'm willing to bet that M$ will handle the next system and its Xbox Live differently. I highly doubt Reach and H3 will go down.
-
This is all assuming that Bungie decides to not kill the Halo 3 portion of their servers before they do with Halo Reach.
Posted by: rafaelfrancisco The cause of Halo 2 server shutdown was because MS stoped he support for Xbox originals, H3 and Reach are in the same console so when H3 die, Reach will die
100% correct- idk why these other people are just randomly guessing when they know nothing about the technology side of this question... [edit] well actually Halo 3 and Reach use the same server to be exact, its not just because they are on the same console but rather the same server... [Edited on 07.22.2010 9:43 AM PDT]
Posted by: Kit Airwave Dumb question: What do the Halo servers do? ... because Halo is a user host based game, what function do the servers have? Clearly we all connect to them and receive data regarding the game and what not, but to what extent? just curious.
Stat collection, B.net backend stuff, matching people up in matchmaking.

>.< That was the point of switching Halo 3 over to the new servers, to preserve space for it. It'll be shut down eventually, once its life has come to an end.
-
It wasn't just Halo 2's servers, all Xbox original servers were shutdown. Halo 3 will still be up and running until the Xbox 360's severs get canceled all together (probably won't be anytime soon).

even if a new console game out next year (which it wont) it will be backwards comp. which mean like the 360 you can play the last gen. titles like halo 3 and reach if there was a new xbox but there wont be for ATLEAST another five years why would M$ waste money on a new version of the 360 just to turn right around and make another system all together it would be making them loose money so dont worry halo fans H3 will be up for a good while

New console != change in xbl protocols. Likewise H2 was not stopped due to a need to change xbl protocols. Although that was the stated reason, they lived side-by-side for a long time, which supports that they can co-exist if it was seen as a need. Its marketing ... only way to get new games sold is to drop off support for the old. Plus the cost for supporting servers for an every increasing set of game titles.
-
With the price of Legendary and Mythic map packs dropping, I hope halo 3 stays alive. Otherwise it would just be a waste of MP and a great (and popular) game
-
How long did Halo 2 last? Was it about 7 years? Well Halo 3 has been going for 3 years already, so if it follows Halo 2 we should have about 4 years left. Though with a huge increase in online games, I dont thnk it will last that long, maybe 2 years, max 3. So its all about the math ;)
-
you'll probably be able to play H3 online for at least the next 2 years
-
ill be on halo 3 when reach comes out, i played the beta thaat was enough for me
Posted by: Twin Carbon Does anyone know if Bungie will shut the Halo 3 servers down like they did for Halo 2. Will Halo 3 be replaced totally by Reach or will halo 3 remain a classic?
Bungie didn't shut down halo 2.
-
Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo said that they aren't making new consoles in another 5 years!
-
they probably wont kill halo 3 servers until a new platform comes out and bungie develops a game for it, buy every server eventually gets shut down unfortunatly [Edited on 07.21.2010 9:02 AM PDT]

Once it does, Xbox360 Live support will have to be shut down across the board, including CoD, Halo 3, Reach, and any future or older games for the 360.
-
The Halo 3 servers have already Shut down Your playing on the Halo Reach Servers, like Halo 2 way played on the Halo 3 Servers for it's last few years
-
I think servers will shut down few years after first xbox 720 came out that same thing happen it old xbox
-
So why can't we play it if the servers are still up? EDIT: To above. [Edited on 07.21.2010 7:14 AM PDT]
Posted by: Uncle Excuses No theyll keep the H3 servers up because its a 360 game, and once reach is out for like a month everyone will realize how -blam!- and call of duty like it is and will go back to halo 3
I disagree. Halo: Reach will be enough to make us all happy. [Edited on 07.21.2010 7:05 AM PDT]

Nope, you can still play the launch titles of the 360 online.
