As the title states I cannot understand all the hate around this. Most non competitive fps games are 30fps! And yet when destiny 2 with its beautiful graphics running on a 5 YEAR OLD console at a very reasonable 30 fps everyone loses their shit! I'd just like to add that NO other non competitive fps game runs at a steady 60fps without using dynamic resolution. (Please correct me if I'm wrong).
I'm classing competitive fps games and games that are truly focused 99% on pvp such as COD, overwatch, battlefield etc.

1 ReplyBecause the vast majority of AAA first person titles can run their games at 60fps. Go play BF1 for an hour then play crucible and it's so choppy and obnoxious

2 RepliesThirty FPS is simply a non-issue in pve. It's an issue in pvp because: 1. Higher frame rates give fast moving object an unnatural clarity. Making it easier to track and aim precisely. 2. Server refresh (tick) rates are often tied to frame rates is comp shooters. So a 60 FPS game will be able to distinguish between events as long as they are at least 16 ms apart. A 30 FPS game will require events to 34 ms apart not to be seen as simultaneous. So this can mean the difference between a win vs a kill-trade at high levels of play. But your comment about not being able to hit 60 FPS on console shooters without compromises like dynamics resolution is the real issue. Processing power that you burn up driving high frame rates can't be used elsewhere. If you're playing a campaign shooter that is pvp centric, that may be a reasonable sacrifice. But in a game like Destiny, that also has to drive this highly complex MMO-like experience in pve, that compromise would like severely damage the pve experience.

I have to agree. At 30 fps, the update rate is approximately 33 milliseconds. At 60 fps the update rate is approximately 16.7 milliseconds. For most people networking will exceed those times. Why is this important? At 60 fps if network latency is 30 milliseconds the game waits about two cycles to process network data. If the latency is 60 milliseconds, then the game waits about four cycles. If Destiny was played on a LAN (local area network), then 60 fps would be fine. Since it isn't, 30 fps provides a good balance. 4K and 60 fps is just gaming hype.

60 is sooo much smoother for a FPS

2 RepliesPlay exclusively at 60fps for a while and then comment. There is a big difference. Feels much more responsive and smoother.

4 RepliesBecause your eyes can differentiate between separate frames at speeds up to 180-190fps, and anything higher is considered reality as far as we can tell. Meanwhile, a 1080p tv at a recommended viewing distance away is already more information dense than the eye can discern in regard to individual pixels. There's far more upside to frames per second than adding in more pixel density than can be discerned.

1 ReplyIts not a bad thing IMO But! Why stand still? Just because other games run 30fps doesn't mean all should. Its called advancing/moving on/ new tech etc. We want the best, latest stuff available. If we don't push the console manufacturers nothing moves forward. Im all for constructive criticism or voicing opinions to keep us moving forward.

4 RepliesMost people complained about it cause. Their doing 4K with 30 FPS. The New Consoles can handle 60 FPS at 1080 easily. (Xbox X, PS Pro) Once you've played at 60 FPS for a while 30 FPS looks terrible. New consoles got capped at 30 FPS.

2 Replies30fps isnt a bad thing at all. Its the bullshit bungie spewed to us about why it cant run 60fps. They say the consoles cant handle it lmao. Thats a bold faced lie. Not even a good lie either.
-
Obviously they want destiny to be competitive though.. So yea.
-
I don't get it either.
-
Well D2 Is not all PvP, geez 30fps is fine it runs ok, See yall at the lightouse

1 ReplyGame looks blurry on large tv's when you are moving.

10 RepliesPart of the reason it bugs people is there's a suspicion that Bunghole is lying which they probably are... I have a graphics card which can.. Barely, render 4k at around 30 to 40 fps... It's also a really, really old card... If the console is capable of rendering 4k at 30fps... Then there is absolutely no reason that a layperson would see that the game can't be rendered at one third the resolution but twice the frame rate. Is it possible there are reasons?... Sure... Buuuuut... Just listening to them say "We can't do it" without being technical as to why... Remember these are people who have a sprint cooldown in their game that they told nobody about and let people just assume there was something wrong with their controllers... Is lying about frame rate something they'd do? Absolutely... So... Lets say that you as an end user could choose between running your console at 4k at 30fps, or 1080 at 60....what bias do they have to prevent you from doing that?... Simple. The extra pixels don't give you a competitive advantage... They might make the game look more pretty, but won't actually make you have a competitive edge... What will?............. Two perfectly matched people, one playing at 30fps, one playing at 60, the person playing at 60 will beat the guy playing at 30 every time, because you receive more information, you are seeing the frames between frames, and that subtle difference means a lot... So......................... People are irritated because they think bungie is lying that they can't do it... Are they? Probably not. Would it surprise me if they were? Absolutely not. There's also no reason you can't play this game with a keyboard and mouse. Ps4 actually allows that, it's up to the developer to implement those controls...Bungie wants /no one/ to have a physical advantage. Oh. Also. Being fare. If you've ever played a game at 120fps compared to 30 fps.. It's a pretty significant difference.

D2 keeps it at a smooth 30 too. 30 is better for cinematics and visuals, but 60 is better for pvp as it can help with visual reaction time. I could care less if it's 30 or 60, I'm going to enjoy it either way.

Same reason 720p would be a bad thing.
-
14 RepliesPlay overwatch and battlefield.
-
Its not, the weapons system is tho
-
It isn't.

It isn't bad, it just isn't as good for pvp.
