Why feeling weak and powerless in D2 may be a Good thing!!!

D2 made us feel weak and powerless, like everything was nerfed. But, hear me out, this may be a good thing. Consider this, when you were a little kid which made you feel better and which made you feel worse. Your mom gives you 4 cookies and after eating two says 'share with your brother' and makes you give him the other two cookies you were about to eat, OR Your mom gives you one cookie and as you're eating it says 'here, you can have another cookie' At the end of the day, either way you've eaten two cookies Destiny always felt to me like they were taking power away from us. Taking our cookies. The end result was trying to achieve ballance but that was achieved more through nerfing than buffing. Say you rate a weapon, power, ability, etc. on a scale from 0 to 10 where 0 is complete nerf and 10 is OP and 5 is completely balanced. Now if they introduce a weapon, power, ability, etc. into the game at a 10, to achieve balance they have to nerf and nerf and nerf til it's a 8 then a 6 then eventually a 5. Ballance is achieved by STRIPPING power. But... if everything in the game starts off weak 1 or 2 they can achieve ballance by GIVING us power. Raising power to 3, 4, and eventually 5. This makes a big difference and is what I HOPE they are doing. Destiny always felt that they were stripping power. Some examples: FATE BRINGER: When we beat the raid and got Fate Bringer it was awesome, a legendary primary with element burn!!! AWESOME!!! But then Bungie said Whoa Whoa Whoa and monkied with the light levels to make it obsolete. Then reintroduced it as an exotic with burn OR a legendary without burn and we thought 'This sucks!' BUT... when you think about it that's the way it always should have been. If the Fate Bringer dropped an an exotic in the first place that would have been ok. The problem is that we HAD a legendary Fate Bringer with arc burn then they took it away. How they replaced it was fair, but it wasn't what it used to be. TRUTH: The Truth used to be my favorite rocket launcher. It, and the Dark Drinker, were the only weapons I had one for each of my characters. But they nerfed it and it disgusts me to the point I deleted them all. But that's because it's not what it used to be. Is the Truth garbage in it's current state? I don't know. If the Truth was introduced from the beginning the way it is now would I resent it as much as I do now? Probally not. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth because I remember how good it used to be. G'horn, Trip mines, Thorn, Red Death, Hammers(although hammers were stupid OP when they first came out) etc. etc. any thing you can think of that used to be good but now 'Sucks', suck not because they suck, but because they were 8s and 9s when they came out and were nerfed DOWN to 5s. Their power was Stripped for ballance and we lament what once was. So I'm hoping what Bungie is doing is starting off with everything at 1 or 2 and, through updates, buffing things UP for ballance as time goes on and they get feedback. (Remember we are Bungie's R'n'D) So maybe feeling weak at first in D2 isn't a bad thing, because they can't take power away from us in the name of ballance they can only give us more power. Hopefully.

...But from a gameplay perspective, this makes it closer to a regular-old FPS than an RPG. ...As someone that doesn't otherwise regularly play FPS games, that RPG gameplay aspect is a huge part as to why I enjoyed it. And Bungie didn't tilt this aspect towards FPS merely with the ability strength, but with the subclass "roles" as well. There are no longer specified support and attack roles. They all do a little bit of each, making them sort of "okay" at everything. That used to be something customizable and player-sanctioned. A lot of the new subclasses changes felt like they were catered to people that didn't understand the concept of these roles in the first game, so they removed them to prevent people from complaining about nonexistent problems. "Ohmygod, Radiance deals like no damage!" Yet did you notice how many orbs you create killing adds? Sunsinger was a prime example of what I'm talking about. So misunderstood that it was removed entirely.

  • That's the second post like this I've seen. You fanboys are funny as hell. Bungie could take away all weapons and make everyone throw rocks, and you idiots would be on here telling everyone it's a good idea. Get that Bungie cock out of your mouth. Muted.

  • PVE players were forced to accept the changes to the weapon system with the promise that there would be less haphazard nerfing of gear in the name of PVP balance.e But when we played the beta, we found that ALL of our powers had been nerfed along with the reduction in DPS. Sorry. That's unacceptable. If I wanted to play a boots-on-the-ground military shooter like Halo, I can fire up my Xbox 1S and play Halo 5. But I don't want to play that kind of game....and I let Bungie know it. The space-magic-----and the sense of supernatural power that it gives----is a large part of the appeal of Destiny. Bungie lost sight of that in the beta, in their rush to give PVP players back their Halo MP.

  • That is a lot to read. I didn't feel weak and powerless... It's all about how you play. It's a little harder and quite different, but after some adaptation, I realized how good the gameplay actually was. Once I stopped playing D2 like D1 and started playing a little more like Halo, I started crushing every match.

    • Having less power is never a good thing that's why I play fps to feel power full to know I deserved to win the engagement when I had better positioning and gun skill I like d2 but I feel like they made some mistakes with balancing firstly ttk was near perfect in d1 I like a .7 ttk when my aim is on point and a 1.0 ttk when I'm not or I'm using a bad weapon secondly for control specifically faster supers not by much maby 20 seconds or something I remember playing multiple games that went to timer with no super in competitive playlist this was not issue I was able to get multiple supers if I played well enough and finally dodge type ability felt useless on warlock and hunter they either need a double dodge or a shorter cool down to make them practical skills able to be used in game

I think its a good thing for D2. I think people are too clingy to the idea of being all powerful.. they want to treat D2 as a DLC for D1, which it is not. It is a fresh start.. so what kind of fresh start starts with us being all powerful? I cant wait to start fresh, experience that feeling of awe and AHH! of being weak in the face of an enemy with question marks for a level again. lol. Anyone remember that? Sometimes those "oh shit" moments are awesome.. and I miss them. We have to remember that even heros fall.. but real heros can pick themselves back up again.

      • So if they nerf in advance our feelings won't be hurt? That's the benefit? Doesn't feel like a "win" to me.

Except the game is marketed as "Feel Legend" and "Build your Legend!" not: "Start off like a mewling kitten with no abilities and weapons that only shoot harsh language, then maybe get to feeling more powerful later if we decide you deserve it..." That's not a good thing. It's not even a carrot/stick scenario. That's goddamn sadistic. That's what that is. The Developers disconnect from their Players is -blam!-ing sickening. I appreciate you trying to be optimistic, but after playing the Beta, pessimism is all Bungie has left me with. And I won't be buying D2 because of the changes that were made.

          • The second part of your analogy should be that your mother decides cookies have been bad for you all these years, throws all cookies out of the house and makes you eat vegetables instead. But not any vegetables, only those she knows you hate. Fortunately most of us are not 12 and not reliant on our mommies to feed us. we get to decide if we prefer cookies, vegetables or a mix of the two and spend our food dollar accordingly.

              • We lost our abilities the traveler gave us. And not sure how we get it back but looking like from a shard of the travler. So instead the whole travler we get a piece. So our powers are limited. If you remember the trailer on titan, zavala you didn't see his ghost so maybe he has no powers. The same with ikora now cayde didn't have a good look.

I wouldn't be surprised of a new low, we're supposed to feel legend.
