These three games are widely accepted as being the pinnacle or real-time strategy games.
Which do you like? And why?

Ahh, I just remembered the tesla coils from Red Alert... I absolutely loved those things. AoE 2 was a very fun game, my first RTS I think. And I actually learned a ton about history from it. The map editor was fun, but there wasn't quite enough variety in the armies. And I might get hurt for saying this, but I never played Starcraft or Warcraft... please forgive me!

Yeah AoE is somewhat unbalanced for me. I always play games in no less than 2v2. So one player fortifies, and I make a swarm of fully upgraded longbowmen. Have you ever tried to take out 200 maxed out longbowmen? Simply put, it doesn't happen. The only thing that irritates me about Red Alert is the lack of concrete stats. In SC or AoE you can say 'x unit has y hit points and does z damage.'. In the Red Alert games, it's a bit more ambiguous..

Red Aleart for me. But the bad thing I found about this game is that the enemies always sent out a very small army of troops each attack, in which case my Tesla Coils or other mounted guns would take them out before reaching the heart of my city. A great game, for sure. Age of Empires was fairly good too, but I only liked the first few of them. But I feel the sound effects got annoying fast, and it mostly consisted of just building a bigger army, not a stronger one. Haven't played Starcraft. For shame. >> Kritz
Posted by: SniperLegend12 Except for the entire point of Starcraft is to rush. There's really no strategy to it, once you think of a strategy, you can just do it over and over again, and win every game you play. I haven't played Red Alert 2, but AoE1,2, or 3 all annihalate Starcraft, which is a sad excuse for a game.
You need to stop playing dumbass maps like BGH or $$FASTEST MAP EVER$$. Those maps suck and are for idiots. Play with the maps included with the game or maps similair to those. They require strategy. Starcraft is considered one of the top RTS of all time, and for good reason. If you're too lazy or stupid to learn to play it right, that's your problem.

I had liked Starcraft more than Warcraft until WC3. I really liked the hero system that they put in, it made me feel like my army had a focal point and a purpose.
-
Red Alert, The expansion was better, Yuri kicks Assorz Starcraft, Love the golith, and the zerg. The ideo of infected huge planets gave me butterflies :D AoE2: Well, the worst graphics of the three, but good gameplay, but all the races were the exact same, only 3 units were different, so meh.
-
I would go 1. Warcraft 2. Starcraft Warcraft does not have the Zergs and such, but Orcs look cooler in my opinion lol.
-
Command and conquer series is the best.
-
Starcraft, Mainly because of Zerg vs. Terran and Map settings on battle net. Plus it has a easy to use campaing editor.
-
starcraft > warcraft. then again, "stop poking meeeeeee!" is awesome.
-
WARCRAFT > ALL :)
-
Out of that list, Red Alert 2 was my favorite due to its speed and wacky tech. But my favorite RTS games now are Dawn of War and Rome: Total War.
-
rise of nations it the only RTS i have ever liked
-
You guys forgot Warcraft. Mine is AoE2

Starcraft is still one of the most popular and highly rated RTS games of all time. That's not to say that AoE is bad. I've heard it's real good. [Edited on 11/26/2005]

Red Alert 2: Fun, diverse, and most of all, fast. You can get through 3 games in 1 hour (if you're good). Even when you're playing Brutal computers. Now, that doesn't mean you will win, just that the game will usually end in about 20 minutes. Starcraft: Different races, strategy, and a great story. This was the game to get. From Battle.net to the campaign, it gave you a new experience at every turn. AOE2: Huge variety of different civilizations, large tech trees, fun cheats, very long, very strategic gameplay. You could play one level for 2 hours and not have gained or lost any ground (so long as the other person is good). Red Alert 2 is my favorite. How's that? [Edited on 11/26/2005]
