Not So Sweet Business

I, like many people in the Destiny community, made and played all three character types pretty extensively, and I noticed a few things that I'll try to post in the appropriate subforums under Feedback. One of the most glaring of them to me was the difference between the Exotic Weapons. I loved the Riskrunner, it felt like a brilliantly calculating weapon to use - allow yourself to take a tiny bit of Arc damage, and then unleash electrical hell on your enemies. I thought that the Sunblaster (I forget the name, but it was the Hunter super hand cannon) was almost too amazing - my personal feeling is that it was more exciting to use and more entertaining than Golden Gun, and made Golden Gun feel really weak when you have a weapon that you can use almost always that is more powerful. And then there's Sweet Business. I first picked this thing up, saw the 99 round magazine and read the perks which say something along the lines of "If you are shooting, you have options available to you to let you keep shooting LONGER." Sounds great! More bullets, more dead enemies, more red headbands and bare-chested, testosterone-fueled mowdowns. Great! Only unlike a certain other "Hold the trigger to win" weapons that I think Bungie could take some Super Good Advice from, this weapon doesn't magically regenerate ammo if you miss or load a reserve shot if you land a hit. Instead, it loads ammo pickups that you have to walk over directly into the magazine. GRANTED, this is probably to balance it as a primary weapon for the Crucible, but in PvE it is extremely lackluster. I don't feel like the exotic perk to walk over ammo pickups works very well for it there, because a lot of the enemies can take enough punishment that even with almost a hundred rounds in the magazine, odds are pretty good that before you even see an ammo pickup fall out of a dead Goblin or whatever, you're already reloading. That is a little frustrating because if you aren't firing, the perk doesn't get triggered, so you have to literally just hold the trigger and run through groups of enemies, hoping you get an ammo drop just so that perk actually works once in a while. I don't really know what would be best to balance this thing for slaying Guardians as well as for cutting down the minions of the Darkness, but I will say that the weapon feels entirely like it was only geared for the competitive side of the game. It seems strange to me that it would be a weapon that is capable and satisfying to use against other players, when you get your ammunition back more often as well as not have to hold the trigger quite as much to be as effective, but then be almost useless except for just pumping a hundred rounds into a boss' face before switching to something else in order to try and kill minions to scavenge more ammo for it. My opinion, which not everyone may agree with, is that while the Riskrunner and Sun-thingy (I should just look it up, shouldn't I?) feel capable and powerful in both competitive and cooperative play, the Sweet Business does not. I would like to see that weapon be more of what I expected it to be, even if it gets moved to the Heavy slot with a damage buff, or an ammunition tweak, or whatever. I had fun using it, it looks and sounds great, and when I was using it in concert with the Rally Shield, it was insanely fun to run in front of an advancing line of Vex Goblins and saw them all in half. But it just didn't feel as all-around useful as the other two guardian weapons did because one of it's perks didn't quite work very well. To sum up, I guess the whole point of this is that I think that the perk to load ammunition pickups from the ground to the magazine ONLY WHILE FIRING felt kind of useless to me. I feel like it could use a bit of a rework or something to make it feel more meaningful, but I have kind of convinced myself while I've been writing this long and disjointed post that that was the root of the problem with the weapon in PvE. So, Bungie, take this for what it's worth from a PvE guy who loves spamming bullets.
