Destiny 2 Beta Feedback - Thoughts & Opinions

Hey, guys So I've been a Destiny player since day 1 of the original beta. Like many of you I had a chance to play the beta for D2 and had some feedback that I would like to share. Pros + Story. Destiny 1 story at launch was a hodge podge of missions with very few cutscenes and almost no central point to it. There was no villain and most of the motivations and background about your guardian and his supporting characters was learned through Grimoire. Looks like this is changing in D2. It is good to know who will be the starting point villain of D2 and what his motivations are. The set up was great and the reasons for your gear and abilities being taken away are communicated through storyline events. + Graphics. The visual improvement from Destiny 1 is clearly noticeable from particle effects to the look of weapons themselves. No complaints here. + Strike. The strike was a good break from the vast majority of Destiny 1 strikes where you slowly make way to the boss room and than stand in the safe spot and shoot at the larger version of normal enemies for the next few minutes. I enjoyed the multi-phase boss battle and the trip to the boss area. It seemed more involving and it seems that boss battle in Nightfall and Heroic strikes will require more teamwork and coordination. + Enemies. I've enjoyed new enemy types that were added. For example, cabal dogs and melee enemies. + Countdown. The PvP mode was a lot of fun and for someone who greatly enjoyed Search & Destroy in the glory days of CoD (MW 1 & 2) this seems like a great addition. + Class Special Abilities. Titan's wall and Warlock's rift add nice mechanics to the gameplay even though Hunter's dodge feels a bit underwhelming. Cons - Subclass Changes. Two points here: 1) not a fan of warlock loosing Self-res and hunter losing invisibility. While some people will argue that those abilities were crutches, they also added uniqueness to the gameplay and made those subclasses stand out. While Dawnblade does have nice abilities to compensate for the super becoming a Hammer of Sol rip-off, the Arcstrider seems bland in comparison to its predecessor. 2) The skill tree being simplified was a huge let down. I was expecting for Bungie to offer more customization here via different builds and perk / exotic armor combinations a-la Diablo or Dark Souls. Unfortunately, this was greatly simplified and now you have two builds per subclass. This, in my opinion, is a great step back. - Weapons. Again, a number of concerns in this area. 1) Not a fan of primary / primary / special set up. I feel that if special ammo spam was a big point of complaint in PvP than they should've just limited it to two boxes of special ammo and one box of heavy ammo spawning per game. To me this would've been a more reasonable fix compared to what has transpired. Even with power ammo drop improvement with release I still think that this limits the amount of usable weapons and will prevent people from trying certain weapon classes. For example, I don't envision myself using sidearm or submachine gun over a well-rolled pulse, scout, or auto. 2) Pre-determined weapon rolls. Random rolls for weapons was what kept the game going for a lot of players. Farming for a god-roll Eyasluna or Grasp of Malok is a good example. 3) Weapons don't feel as exciting. Part of allure for the game was grinding for OP weapons like Vex, Gjallarhorn, etc. and if all weapons are lackluster like the ones in the beta, I'm concerned that the game will get boring a lot quicker than D1. - 4 vs. 4. I like an option of 4 vs. 4 for certain game modes like Countdown. However, there should still be an option for 6 vs. 6 in modes like Clash or Control. Or just for bigger maps. It's never a good idea to take options away from the player especially if this option involves cutting the number of Friends that you can play with since one of the game's many appeals was being able to play with your friends online. - Abilities & recharge time. This has already been covered in multiple threads. The charge rate for supers needs to be higher and certain supers need to be re-worked. The Nova Bomb in the beta does not track very well and most of the time you just end up throwing a giant ball that travels with the speed of a beach ball. Dawnblade does not kill on hit some of the time. Does it have range drop off? Shield throw recharge is rather slow. It looks like the recharge time and damage of abilities has been nerfed. It should have been either one or the other. Class abilities is what makes the game fun and unique, while it might make the game more balanced for PvP, it does take a lot of fun out of the PvE aspect of the game. Concerns Some of the things that I am not sure of based on the beta but might be issue with the release. - Only 2 subclasses available per class. - Private match not being available at the game's release. - Weapon perks and exotic perks not being as unique when the game ships compared to Destiny 1. - Class supers and abilities being underwhelming compared to D1. While this might add "balance", it will certainly make the game less fun to play. - Trying to balance for PvP hurting PvE gameplay. - Loot being underwhelming due to the lack of "carrot" weapons and weaker weapon / armor perks. - Certain story elements being left behind. Hopefully, this cover most of it. Let me know your thoughts on this.
