-We were under the recommended light level for the strike -Our weapons were not able to have mods -Our gear did not have any real perks unlocked for grenade/super/melee charge rates -Ghaul takes our light, so of course we're going to feel weak -Bungie claimed that some guns were not doing the correct damage -We were limited to specific subclasses and abilities (Did you look at the other subclass trees?) What I don't think people are taking into consideration, is that we've played Destiny for so long, that we've been at the max light doing strikes and other lower light level activities, so it feels like we're powerful. I believe as we level through the story mode, strikes, and raid, (and get gear that compliments weapon choices and vice versa) that we'll begin to see that power come back. That sense of being legend once more.
I really liked the combination of the Titan Barricade and the Warlock Rift during the strike and in crucible. Hell, me and a buddy of mine played control. We really worked well together holding down B flag with two Titan walls facing separate directions.
You know NOTHING about mods, but because we didn't have them, thats why we were underpowered. The ONLY thing we know about mods is that you can use them to turn a normal gun into an elemental gun. Again, assuming that gear we haven't seen will make up for problems we have seen... Homecoming takes place before ghaul takes our light (wasn't oryx trying to take our light too? Lazy writing...) The beta build was months old but they chose not to change anything and then had the balls to say in TWAB that they knew the problems and hated them, but just wanted to make sure we hated them too.....really? We aren't allowed to pick and choose between the subclass nodes, so lack of access doesn't change how our characters interact whenever they use HALF of their build... I have no doubt that some gear we will get will be better than what he had access to in the beta, but we had access to about 30 different weapons and half the subclass abilities that our character will have, and we still felt weak as hell. But PvP played along smoothly......

  • lol, you know how people get, especially on these forums. I'm all for voicing opinions and concerns in a reasonable and constructive fashion. People like to completely forget what a stress test is. They want to take a small bit of gameplay and run full steam with it, without taking into consideration tweaks that can and/or will be made. Thus far, I'm content with what we got in the beta. As much as I wanted a small patrol area, I'm kind of glad they didn't add it to the beta. I want that feeling of wonder, exploration and discovery. 👊

  • I think that what you don't remember is the beginning of Destiny 1. Everything was more powerful in that starting level than it was in this Beta. Even the cooldowns were quicker, weapons more powerful and movement was faster. If you don't believe it restart a character in D1 and check it by yourself.

  • lol, I have enough Destiny characters. Two accounts is more than enough. Didn't someone do the math via level 20 cool down timers for both grenades and supers comparing Destiny to Destiny 2 beta?

  • All abilities will have this universal countdown. Bungie have stated they're making D2 more "competitive"

  • I feel like I've been saying this on the forums on repeat and people still don't get it. How have you played this game this long and swear you're a PVE main player and you didn't even notice what the light level for the activities were? Or that you have had cool down reducing gear for years at this point?

  • I certainly don't disagree with you, and think you make some valid points. For me, I went from "gotta go pre order after work!!" To "Well, I guess we'll see..." I liked the Beta, wasn't blown away or anything. If I didn't already pre order, the Beta didn't really do anything to force my hand in that regard. The cool downs across the board are something I'm not a fan of. Now some people say others use their supers as a crutch, while I'd play devil's advocate and say it's also a fun thing. Imagine playing a Superman game, were you had extended wait times for flight, heat vision and so on. And when you finally did do it, its lackluster. Using your super is fun, looks great and feels even better. So it's no entirely about "needing" it, but rather wanting it. Can't grade the weapons too much, since we have no idea what others will look like. But for me, "power" weapons felt like anything but. Forget the ammo drop, the weapons themselves felt very underwhelming. Mix in the fact that they put a pretty large group into one slot, making us have to pick, and I can easily say this was my biggest problem leaving the Beta. The perks on most of the weapons left a lot to be desired, but I digress. I'm not canceling my preorder, and can say with great certainty I'll be there day one. But I have concerns, and optimism they'll be addressed. Or, find a middle ground in the least.

  • 1. Patch 1.03 corrected that, and it was only a slight improvement 2. Bungie reduced weapon stability and aim-assist. 3. All the cooldowns are slower than D1 base levels. 4. That explanation would work if were were intro level Guardians. But for the strike we clearly have our Light back....and we are Level 20, Light 200. The power level you would take into Year 2 (The Taken King) if you were to replay Destiny 1. We are SUBSTANTIALLY weaker than we were at the start of Year 2. 5. I had heard of glitches....but the damage problems are a game tuning problem, not a bug or glitch problem. 6. Yes, But that has nothing to do with the builds we are playing with feeling underpowered. 7. I went back to Destiny 1 in the last few weeks and leveled up all of my sub-accounts so that they all would reach the level 20 threshold for being transferred to the new game. Plus I leveled a few of them up to level 40, but not max light. WE ARE SIGNIFICANTLY WEAKER IN THE DESTINY 2 BETA THAN WE WERE AT LIGHT 200 IN DESTINY1. PERIOD. 8. But with the game's current tuning we would NEVER get back to the same power level that we had at the end of Destiny 1. Which is why Bungie is making no effort to defend the tuning of this build for the beta.

Which is still a net nerf. Because our DPS has been nerfed because of the changes to the weapon system.

  • Regardless, just pointing out how power is relative. If they nerfed mob HP's instead of buffing vitality of non-combatants you'd feel extremely powerful in comparison. Point remains it's a balancing act (as always) and you're not happy with the current pass (of an old build that they've acknowledged won't be the full release). To put things into perspective =)

  • Power is always relative. Which is why I tell people complaing about the new weapon system that they don't Feel Damage Per Second. They feel TIME TO KILL.....and if the game is TUNED properly so that PVE TTK is unchanged for PVE, the vast majority of the fanbase will adapt to the changes pretty quickly without feeling less powerful. The problem is that Bungie FAILED to do this. The TTK in the D2 strike is noticeably longer than at the same power level in D1. There is also a similar power problem with our cooldowns and our ability damage output relative to enemy health pools. The game is just poorly tuned for PVE. ...and tuning problems are easy fixes, ONCE they are acknowledged as problems.

  • Being here since day 1 has shown me that every patch, every buff, every nerf, every weapon damage adjustment positive or negative has been met with dissent and applause. How much for each side is questionable at times, and other times pretty clear. I do not think the state of the BETA is fully representative of the launch, merely it provides some cues to the player on what things they've planned on changing from what we are currently used to. In short, to give us a feel for it. I'm certain there will be numerous balance passes and weapon/armor tuning in the months to come leading up to and post release. The amount of "sky is falling" nonsense is just that, Bungie community dealing with change the only way Bungie community knows how...cry threads.

  • Gamers are like stock market investors. They over-react to bad news, and they over-react to good news. The beta is not the final game....but it does represent a preliminary **tuning** of the game. As such its an appropriate target for feedback to the developers regarding how we feel about that tuning. But games can be retuned relatively quickly, so the sort of "catastrophizing" you're referring to is indeed unnecessary.
