D2 Beta K/D, STOP LYING TO YOURSELVES! it's KA/D

This beta has many people thinking they are dropping high Kill/Death ratios in pvp matches, when in actuality the new scoring system is providing us with Kill+Assist/Death ratios. Since the release you've all seen it, a bunch of videos and screenshots posted to brag about dropping a really high K/D in D2 Beta pvp match. For example there's tons of videos with baited titles such as "D2 Beta Ridiculous 20.0kd game!". Maybe these people just haven't realized it's KA/D yet, or maybe they do know but are happy to mislead people to try and make themselves look good. The killstreaks are overinflated bs too. I've had games where I get that 10x streak next to my name, and a teammate will tell me "holy crap nice". I'm thinking to myself "I can't be proud of this, I hardly even got any kills in the kills feed, all I did was put a bullet or two in somebody and my teammates cleaned them up". This scoring system definitely does not envelope the same sense of accomplishment as D1, when a 10x kill streak meant you actually had to 'finish' that number of opponents and not die. My friend said "this scoring system is Bungie treating us like we're fat kids who don't do the best in a race, but receive a gold participation medal to feel good about ourselves". I mean I know the positive aspect is this scoring helps promote teamwork/teamshots, but I'm not in favor of this compared to the D1 scoring system. EDIT: First point I want to make is that I believe assists are a valuable performance statistic, and are good to have in game. However, when you take two different stats 'assists' and 'kills', then pretend they're the exact same thing...i think that is just lazy and false. EDIT: Second point is there are a bunch of people misrepresenting the end game stats to make themselves look good. If you want to brag and be proud of a D2 Beta match that's fine, just don't tell me you got 27kills with 9.0k/d, when you actually got 18kills 9assists with 9.0ka/d.

    • I love the pvp in Destiny 2 but i dont feel its as rewarding as Destiny 1. Getting that headshot bonus + kill comming up in middle of the screen was a great feeling in D1 crucible. I think if they are going to do this method of assist kills they should do it the same way as its done in Battlefield 4.

    • Arguably now the meta is "teamshoot" the person who takes the first 10% of the health bar does just as much to kill the enemy as the one who takes the last 10%, maybe even more if they took off 90% of his health bar and the person who killed them shot a distracted enemy in the back for the last 10%. Even in D1 those with high ROF weapons were more likely to get more recorded kills than those with lower ROF ones just because when two people were shooting at an enemy the high ROF weapon had the best chance of taking the last bit of health. If it bothers you that much the fair way would be award the kill to the person who did the most damage to the enemy rather than the lucky last shot. That said much like K/D can be gamed Efficiency will be too, and both are ultimately outputs of the matchmaking system so I wouldn't put too much stock in either as a skill metric.

    • I agree, there's no need for that. I'm average and I know that. I'm a middle aged guy with a beer gut and a bald patch. I'll never "git gud" and that's grand. I don't need the game to give me other people's kills. This new way to count kills is frankly patronizing. I don't like it.

    • In a game where this is no incentive to have a 5.0K/D or .5K/D, the stat simply does not matter. The rewards are no different, irregardless of how good or bad you do.

      • I believe that efficiency rating is better than K/D. It doesnt really matter at the end of the day. Once we're in D2 the best players will set the bar of what a top 1% player's efficiency rating is, and we'll all go off that like we do K/D or ELO now. It's just a change of what's being displayed and what we're paying attention to as players. It doesn't effect our skill or play.

        • I've said it before and I'll say it again... Unless you are getting a real life prize (typically money), video game stats do not matter and essentially every trophy is a participation trophy.

The difference is almost proportional. A skilled player with a high K/D will have a high KA/D, and a player with a low K/D will have a relatively low KA/D. It's like converting dollars to pounds. The numbers change but the value is the same.

                  • I agree, the sense of pride and individual success in matches is gone with the new system. They should have just made a different game mode for people who like to play as a unit and teamkill where assists count.

KDA has always been the better system anyway. That's why most proper competitive games use it. If I do 90 percent of the damage and you come from no where and take the kill why should that show on your stats and not mine? Keep in mind this can and does happen multiple times a game.

I don't understand what the fuss is about. It's only a measure of in-game performance to be compared against other people within the same match being assessed under the same conditions. If the game is now going to focus more on team shooting, recording assists as kills will keep vocal players quiet about having their kills stolen. It would only misrepresent the situation if only some players were assessed on KDA and others within the same game were assessed on KD. All it means the number next to your name is higher than it would have been in D1. The differences between those higher numbers will still reflect who statistically performed better. As long as D2's statistical measure is consistent it doesn't matter. As for people plugging their stats to advertise themselves, does anyone really buy into that? Bungie could also give consideration to displaying damage stats and accuracy like Halo 5 does. In my opinion this helps reflect how efficient a player has been in any given match.

                    • People who say K/D doesn't matter either have low KDR's or never played with that 0.13 KD teammate that cost them a game.

                    • New KA/D makes sense to me. Why should the final blow give you the kill if someone else did all the work?

                    • Who cares what other people's score is? No matter how it is counted you know if you played well or not. Do you really believe everyone on the forums is here to look up your stats and line up around the corner to blow you just because you have a k/d of two or three?

People basically just want efficiency as the main stat in every game, masking k/d and stat tracking is something that appeals to this crowd. If D1 had effiency instead of K/D people would react positively to it because when 5/6 people go negative on the team, no one wants to see that. Efficiency makes a less than 1 stat harder to gain and people will gobble this system up because it makes them feel good. But this the problem, D2 is creating a system that makes players feel good based on end game stats, as opposed to making them feel good about the gameplay. D1 had this backwards, D1's gameplay specifically gunplay made people excited, their end game stat is where the disappointment came, and the outlet were the forums. D2 is going a new way where it's paving people's behaviour on the idea that they're better, I mean think about it. If you were mediocre in D1 you won't suddenly be top 1% in D2 in your first play session. But D2 makes a system where you can damn well believe that its true and that's why you will have people supporting this even though it undermines actually being a individually impacting game.

                      • Im not sure how bungie is doing it but other games that use kda count kills as 1 and an assist as a half of a kill so if you have 10 kills and 10 assist and 10 deaths than it would be 10/10/10 and ultimately 15/10 or 1.5kda. I havnt done the math on how bungie does it yet but I dont think its a bad system as long as they dont count assists as a full kill but a half kill. Hope that wasnt too confusing the way I explained it.
