I feel like the #1 mistake you can make when trying to wrap your head around these changes is to envision how they would work in a D1 encounter. D2's sandbox, encounters, mechanics, ammo economy, DPS values, etc, etc have all been tuned and EXTENSIVELY play-tested around these changes. Once you've established that as a baseline. These things start to make way more sense. Like LMGs for example. In D2, we have auto rifles and SMGs available to us in kinetic/energy (primary/elemental) weapon slots. The LMG archetype would simply overlap too much to make sense.

  • Mostly agree with everything you said, though I had to chuckle at this:
D2's sandbox, encounters, mechanics, ammo economy, DPS values, etc, etc have all been tuned and EXTENSIVELY play-tested around these changes.
You sure they've EXTENSIVELY play-tested everything? Do you work at Bungie and therefore can speak directly to this? I have several friends who work at a major video game developer and I can assure you that things go out all the time that were not all that thoroughly tested.

  • I don't for one second think anything has been (extensively) play tested lol Just look at their history! They extensively play tested the last patch and look at what we have been left with in pvp! A total turd of a mess! They think of an idea at a table and implement it! Then sit back and see how it holds out in the community, that's their play testimg

  • In all honesty it brought more primary usage for a time, and not to mention it was just shotguns EVERYWHERE...and fusions are only being over used now because...people are idiots? The crucible has been a mess since TTK came out, only now is it starting to make people realize what they have done...

  • I have tried communicating this exact point to various people, everyone is treating D2 as being developed on top of what we know about D1 when the reality is it needs to be treated as something completely separate which is why everyone saying it's going to be awful can't really back that up with any proper evidence. I'm not saying it won't be awful but people need to try the new sandbox before they can truly have an opinion on the matter.

  •
D2's sandbox, encounters, mechanics, ammo economy, DPS values, etc, etc have all been tuned and EXTENSIVELY play-tested around these changes..
yea cause that has worked so well the last 3 years. Just stop with that already

  • How about you just stop. What does the last three years have to do with D2's sandbox? The way guns, subclasses, abilities, ammo and perks are all managed and balanced in D2 is fundamentally different. So while Bungie will no doubt encounter new/different obstacles, its unlikely they will copy/paste the same old issues from D1 into D2.

  • Because its the same damn people doing it and you somehow think they have Managed to miraculously figure thing out when they havent even com close in the last three years. The first strike boss they showed was a bullet sponge so that just shows they havent gotten it right yet

  • You automatically assume they didn't learn from mistakes. But the fact is, right now they learned from many things (especially the PvP segment with all the positive changes).

You automatically assume they did learn all of a sudden when they couldnt figure it out in three years As for your fact these positive changes for pvp has just screwed pve because they. Havent figured it out to just do them seperately and took he lazy way out. And positive is a reletive term as i have seen just as much hate for these "positive" changes as i have seen love for them

  • Nothing I've seen in PvP is postive in my opinion.

I think a lot of people are seeing this as an expansion and therefore not taking into account that's it not. What we've seen so far and what lies ahead is all contingent on the rest of the D2 content/gameplay.
