If you're hardcore enough that you have 5+ weapons in each slot, you're hardcore enough to use a gear manager.

The design for Destiny 2 is supposed to be about streamlining and making previously external applications an ingame reality. They talk about how the change to the director makes us able to quickly run to the vault and then rejoin our friends if we want to grab something. They're not adding any more lore to the site, instead it's all going to be ingame. Even clans are being covnerted into an ingame function. They're trying to limit how much we have to go outside the game to bungie.net and other resources. So streamlining the engram system in game would also solve a lot of these problems. Also, 5 is not a large number. That's one equipped weapon, one full line, and then one in another line. I regularly run with 7 in each slot so I have room for 3 engrams, and I DO also run a gear manager. But under the current system, you either have to return to the tower often or run a gear manager if you want to switch weapons. Sure, if you're doing PVP you've got a set loadout or two that you prefer, but PVE is a lot more demanding in terms of different strike modifiers and raid loadouts. Move that into the Destiny 2 system where we'll have more weapons we'll want to carry around... streamline will be needed, especially while Destiny Item Manager is trying to make a new manager, etc. And the quick access to the farm will not be enough, unless we can send engrams in our inventory to the vault from other areas or something else like that.

  • This is true, Destiny 2 is trying to streamline things. At the same time, since you now effectively have two primary slots, I question the value of having one weapon of each type for each in every mission. I never even considered it a potential issue.

  • Right, except that I'm not going to want to go to the farm and switch weapons for every single mission. I'm going to want to keep going and not have to run back to the farm to get a specific scout rifle or such. And when I'm IN a mission and I want to switch, I'd prefer to already have my favorite options on me. So assume that I've got 4 exotics for each slot (which is basically what I run now because of the exotics I enjoy and want on me) then most of the time I'm going to want in each "primary" slot a scout, a hand cannon, an SMG, and likely another good legendary that I enjoy using. The reason I'll want those different weapons is to play not only to weapon types but more importantly to different ranges, and I'm going to want my bases covered. I usually run a close, a mid, and a far ranged weapon. Likely I'll run Scout, Hand Cannon, and Shotgun/Sword. And I imagine that the Power slot will be worse. I don't like many fusion rifles, but with linear fusion rifles now being a thing, I'll likely want 6 different legendaries to run different ways, AND the exotics I like. And here's the thing, kinetic and energy are different. Not INCREDIBLY, but shields come down faster on enemies (both PVP and PVE) with energy weapons than they do on kinetic weapons, and especially when burns are active... those weapons are going to be used a lot more tactically and a bit more sparingly. So you want to have your options open. Now if there are engrams on top of all that... That's not much room. Now, no, I don't think we should be carrying around our entire arsenal on our backs, but actually being able to use all 10 slots instead of worrying about engrams would be a very good relief to the game, especially with the added pressure of the new system.
