Hipsters have RUINED Beer
I decide to stop at the state liquor store to pick up some beer for my Birthday tomorrow. Something that isn't the 3.2% I can get at the grocery store. Admittedly, I like microbrews. Bud, MGD, Coors, etc... are just not my thing. I like something a bit more flavorful.
So there I am, browsing the beer selection. 3 out of 4 beers are IPAs. Ballast Point, Goose head, Stone. IPA IPA IPA IPA IPA IPA. Bitter, god awful, trash. Just like Hipsters, which is funny because they prefer IPAs.
Why is it so hard to have a nice Porter, or an Amber Ale or Red Ale. Where did the Lagers go? Why can't I find a boch? It's all god damn IPAs.
Hipsters demand for shitty beer have ruined Beer.
Why is it so hard to find good beer anymore?

My friend recently visited from New Zealand and we all got together at his friends small brewery. All the free beer you could drink. I went home quite sober. -blam!-ing craft beer shit.

While I normally find your posts about as reasonable as a Doberman on acid, for once I agree. I hate the desperation evident in their "badass" names and the bizarre arms race to get your beer tasting more hoppy. I look forward to the day I find the "Go -blam!- Yourself" quadruple IPA that is just a bunch of raw hops in a bottle, because then I'll know we've reached bottom and things can only get better.

State liquor store? What is that? Im a sam adams fan myself but do enjoy Woodchuck cider or Angry Orchard. Tennessee passed a law that apv in beer can be 11% now i think.

Many of those styles of beer tend to be seasonal. Not to mention many beer drinkers are flocking to micros, which are IPA heavy. Hipsters are why PBR is so expensive in some cities.

I started drinking IPAs just because they were usually stronger and I guess I acquired a taste from there. Not a hipster though.

Being in San Diego, every single -blam!-ing local beer is an IPA and in stores for every 1 amber or red ale(which is usually the only one) there are 5 or more IPAs.

Edited by c111whelan999: 7/3/2017 2:26:23 PMI live in England so the majority of beers I get is stuff like Carling, Fosters, Carlsberg etc. However I had spent the last four months in Prague and the calibre of beer they have over there, compared to here, was amazing. After tasting beers like authentic Pilsner Urquell, Radegast, Staropramen and my favourite, Kozel Dark; I actually can't go back to drinking English beer as the taste is disgusting. Sure there are good homebrewed beers (now I'm assuming you live in America and I have never been there; as such, my knowledge of American beers is lacking) but for me, if I want authentic great tasting beer, then I have to import.

7 RepliesRight now in indy they just released yuengling lager so everyone is lager crazy at the moment. I agree IPA'S are a bit played out right now but they are good (some) There is brew pub near that has an amazing porter that is brewed with a local coffee company.... amazing. I may go get one now.

I do like IPAs, but I find it ridiculous how much attention is placed on them. Or the idea that by virtue of being an IPA, it has to be good. Like you said, there are so many other types of beer that are good. That being said, your store needs a larger beer selection...

I also loathe IPAs. Glad I'm not the only one. A few years ago I went to the Milwaukee brewfest and went up to the Lagunitas stand and saw they only had IPAs. Guy asked what I wanted and I said no thanks I'm not a fan of IPAs. Then he said "well then why did you come to a brewfest?". I replied with: To drink good beers. Looks like I can't find that here. How could he be that big of a douche?
