if you remember from waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back, bungie figured that at most, players would play 45 minutes a day.. A DAY! to rng would be necessary to accumulate items that you want. as it turns out many of us play far more than that. which creates the problem. similarily those who play very infrequently and rely on rng for items also creates the problem.. basically huge extremes at either end. those at one end of the scale will always have the tug from the other end attempting to balance the entirety of the loot pool. Should a casual player not have access because they cannot play enough to even obtain a few items of worth.. should the hardcore player be left with little to do because they have obtained everything due to "overplaying" and then how do you balance the needs of both? Would it be possible to have quests for items and after a few months those quests stop dropping the item and it goes into a loot pool to be randomly found? potential in that idea but, then you come to the hardcore guys saying hey, the casual didn't earn it like I did and why did I have to put all that effort in to getting it.. subsequently the casual feels locked out of obtaining items for a while becuase they don't have the time to put in to obtaining said item. Long story short.. RNG is necessary.. its how they impliment it that really needs to be closely monitored to give both the hardcore and casual player a path that is exciting, fun and replayable.

  • Yes agreed. Bungie's decision for this current system comes down to the differences in players' time played. Remember early Year 1 rng literally ruled. The grind was very real back then.

A point of disagreement... Bungie did not find players only played 45 minutes per day. They set Vanilla up with the assumption that's what would happen. What in fact DID happen was players played much more and blew through content. By the time Crota dropped I personally played three raids a week, easy and hard both, on all three characters. Then there were patrols, Nightfalls, and Weeklies. My hat is off to anyone that can do all that in 45 minutes. Edit - reread your comment. We are actually in total agreement. I'll leave my comment to re-enforce your point.

  • I think you misread, I never said that bungie saw players playing 45 inutes a day but, that they figured players would pay only 45 minutes a day, which in actual fact the avg. at that time was 3 ties that amount..as an average. They anticipated players working through raids in peices, doing a night fall one day, a few pvp the next etc.. they found that players binge played everything.. just like you did, just like I did.. we couldn't get enough.

  • Yeah, this game is one big balancing act. The rng, the weapons ,etc. This game will always be a mix of things, what op wants is most suited for the so called hardcore players. I personaly think Bungie would be up for it, but they probably think that it would lose them the more casual part of the community. So money wins over more interesting content i am afraid. I am also curious how long the new raid will be, this is about the same principal. Kingsfall was also a longer raid, wrath takes less time to compleet, in my clan we play the smaller raids way more then the longer ones. So time is also a factor . Cheers

  • If I had to weigh in, I'd rather have long grinding quests, missions, long raids etc.. I play 20-30 hours a week, and to all those with excuses as to why they can't play that much, I work full time, am married and do have other hobbies as well. If it is something you enjoy you find ways to fit it into your schedule just like anything else.

  • I often get hate for having to be a kid playing as much as I do etc.. its just choices we choose to make and I very much enjoy gaming and being right in the forefront of destiny.. I wasn't intending to specifically say you would rake me over the coals lol
