I understand the feeling, but quite honestly, as much as RNG sucks, RNG also provides us with those screamer moments from Y1, like when your first Icebreaker or G-Horn drops. What I'd personally love to see is quests for intermediate level items that help bridge the gap from going from finishing the campaign to being ready to take on the endgame. After that, I'd like to see at least SOME elite-tier, grind reducing weaponry reserved for those who persevere and complete difficult endgame content multiple times.
This gives us the incentive to rerun hard content and it keeps us having something to keep playing for. However, IMO, for that kind of a system to work, you need separation of PVP from PVE so that the RNG prizes can actually be, you know, WORTH IT like they were in Y1.

Or your first fatebringer.

Yeah, I'd throw that in there too, though I didn't freak out when I first got FB. Truth be told, I loved Scouts and my VoC so much my fatebringer sat in my vault for over a month before I gave it a try and realized how fun and powerful the gun was.

I love my handcannons so Fb was my ultimate joy I'm year one.

I love my snipers, and patience/time was my first exotic. I have loved that gun since the day it dropped and it is LITERALLY the ONLY thing I miss about Destiny right now. Yeah other snipers were more powerful in PVE, but the gun was a dedicated marksman's rifle in PVP and it was always a ton of fun to shoot in both modes. I loved the dull thud of the gun and could almost hear noobs screaming on the other end when I domed them. Near-zero recoil meant the next shots were always on target.
