Crucible (at least) needs to be 60 FPS no matter the cost in D2 (Bungie, please at least read what I have to say)

EDIT: It's alright guys. I'm moving to PC because seeing some of these comments I now understand why console gamers aren't taken seriously. I proposed something that can only be good for everyone, regardless if it's possible or not, and I get comments disagreeing with me ? Enjoy your 30 FPS. Before I say anything else, I want to say that I'm only talking about CRUCIBLE and I'm 100% aware of the technical limitations on consoles, but you have to make some sacrifices if that's what it takes. There's a reason every other shooter is targeting 60 FPS. Star Wars Battlefront realizes how important frame rate is in a first person shooter and went as far as making the game 720p on xbox one in order to achieve that frame rate. I just took a month long break from Destiny, and in that time, I've been playing Overwatch exclusively (a 60 FPS game). Today, when I finally came back to Destiny, even after 2 hours of playing, I simply could not adjust to the 30 FPS in Destiny. I literally could not keep track of things happening on my screen and when I turned my camera around I was getting nauseous. I'm not even exaggerating for dramatic effect. I'm sure anyone who has played a 60 FPS game and came back to Destiny can attest to this. I'm sure that after a few days I will eventually readjust. After all, I've played Destiny for 3200 hours and never really had a problem before. BUT.... You can't expect people to only play your game. Now that I'm playing multiple different shooters I just don't even feel like coming back to Destiny because the frame rate feels terrible and I don't want to force myself through 5 hours just to readjust, even though I still LOVE the gunplay in Destiny. People play other shooters, and coming back to Destiny is a terrible experience. People will try out the crucible and immediately feel that something is not right. Not all of them but a lot of people will be turned off. That's literally what happened for a lot of players in Destiny 1. Please Bungie ! Try to understand that a 30 FPS competitive shooter in 2017 is simply unacceptable and in some cases, like what I just mentioned in this post, it is also unplayable. PVE is fine at 30 FPS. I have no expectations for PVE because I know there's a lot going on there and 60 FPS is just impossible on consoles. I'm also aware that switching between 30 FPS PVE and 60 FPS PVP could be jarring for the player. But at least give us an option to switch between a 60 FPS + low graphical fidelity mode and the normal 30 FPS mode. Make 30 FPS be the default setting but give us an option to switch just in crucible if that's what we prefer. Also, I'm not expecting this at launch. I know it's too late now to implement something like this and it would take a lot of work. But you NEED to do something in a patch, even if it's months after launch. Are you really going to force your players to move to PC just to get a decent experience ? I'm sorry but I like to play other games and those games are 60 FPS. They are literally preventing me from enjoying Destiny and if it comes down to it, I'm not going to stop playing 5 other games just so I can enjoy one single game. PLEASE, understand that this is a bigger deal than you think. All I ask is that you take it into consideration and try to understand how this can make or break the PVP of Destiny 2. I have endless examples people saying that they just won't play Destiny because it's 30 FPS. Is your engine THAT BAD, that you can't do 720p and 60 FPS on small 4 v 4 maps ?

  • 30fps has not stopped Destiny becoming the phenomenon that it is. This game has set new standards in PvP, and become the highlight of this generation with such a lowly frame rate, so your point about 60fps is moot.

    • If people want 60fps they could buy the game for PC. I personally would also take 60fps any day but not playing because of that is just stupid.

      • 30fps is not that big of a deal. If rather it look prettier and less smooth than have it look smoother at the cost of graphics.

            • Why does "a game" NEED to be 60 FPS? From a COMPLETELY software functionality viewpoint. Can a system not run on 30 FPS and have a completely streamlined experience? No of course it can. Bungie is just lazy.

People are disagreeing because of your fundamental misunderstanding of the hardwares capabilities and the differences between what a game like battlefield and what a game like destiny has to run. They won't just separate crucible to 60 fps either. Do you know the difference between CPU and GPU?

              • its not cost, its console ability to perform, and with the engine bungie is using, it can't be done for xb or ps. time to just get over it or not play.. it isn't going to be changing

                • This is some of the most mindless drivel I've ever read. 1. It wasn't the 30FPS that turned most people away from the Crucible. It was the terrible fkn design. The weapon balance was completely non-sensical. The completely pathetic lag. The ancient network model etc. 2. 60 FPS is NOT a necessity. Also, if 30FPS doesn't make PvE unplayable, then how in the actual -blam!- does it make Crucible unplayable? I play other shooters and come back to destiny and I play just fine, infact... I would wager that most of us can still
keep track of things happening on my screen
If you can't then 60FPS isn't going to help you, go see a doctor or something. I don't disagree that i very much like the FEEL of 60FPS, but I understand where Bungie is coming from on this front. There's technologies available that will alleviate their concerns, so every single point they make to defend the 30FPS on console is pretty fkn thin. I'll tell you what I really think is happening. The art team wants a certain LOOK for Destiny 2. The artists that are crafting this world intend it to be view this way. So if this means that I have to view it at 30 FPS to view it the way the artists intended... then that's fine with me. No to mention that this 30 FPS is very very solid. In the tests that I've seen there's no drops in frame fate at all. Also, those technologies (that other games that look great use) alter the resolution on the fly. I'm assuming that the art team didn't really enjoy that. Story and network BS aside... the game LOOKS really pretty.

                  • Meh 60 fps is great and all but your missing one aspect of the puzzle. Shooters like overwatch are designed from the ground up with pvp in mind and as such they limit map sizes and optimise the frame rate for such things. Destiny, and by extension, destiny 2 are pve games that have a pvp side option. Crucible maps and levels are simply copied pve content placed together in a map and therefore weapons and textures etc are not optimised for pvp. Also as destiny has much more depth than your convention shooter in the form of ability based melee and grenades abilities that have recharge rather than a true or false variable it becomes easy to see why destiny cannot be a jack of all trades WHILE running locked at 60fps

                    • I do t see any way under the sun they implement 69fps in crucible alone. Just like with weapon balancing, all changes are game wide in order for the game to feel the exact same regardless of the activity your in.
