Felwinter's Peak in D2

Just a few quick questions regarding the mountain of jumper's tears. So I know the real world reason why our weapons don't go forward into D2, but what about what we had stored at the mountain? Was it all linked to the main hub in the tower? I know what Rahool said about Engrams, so are the terminals on the peak and the reef just elaborate 3d printers getting their data from the tower? Also, do the Cabal attack the peak like the Fallen did? Why aren't we falling back to the Iron Lords stronghold? The story from Wrath tells us there were hundreds of Iron Lords and that their armory was on the mountain. So does that mean the mountain could hold all of the survivors from the Tower, or just that it was the command center of the Iron Lords?

  • My best guess is it's not close enough to the Traveller's shard, so going there would mean risking your life without chance of resurrection.

  • I remember seeing a shot in the trailer where a group of guardians are walking on a ledge covered in snow and ice, while a group of Red Legion ships fly overhead.

  • Shiro and salidin probably came to help the city during the assault so maybe while they were gone it gave an opportunity for the fallen to take it

    • I agree. Why wouldn't our next base of command after the city fell be at the Iron Temple? We just started to build it again and recreate the Iron Lords. It's not near the Traveller either so it wouldn't be under attack. This makes no sense. I hope it is another social space that is open again in Destiny 2

      • Dude... when you put your guns in the vault it is not physical storage. I see it as more of a cloud.

      • Shhhhh your not meant to question Bungies failings, or any holes and incompetent inconsistencies in their plots or storyline.

        • You guys also miss the point. Our job as gaurdians is to protect the last city and ITS INHABITANTS. Therefore, this leads to my reasoning that some of the population would move to felwinter peak and the reef, but they probably can't hold the population of the last "safe" city on Earth. So this is why we set up outposts in the european dead zone. Also, what happened to all of australia, the americas, africa, and the arctic regions?

        • Gary came just for the Traveler. I don't think it's some sort of invasion or revenge story. He's probably just laser focused on the Traveler, who just happens to be over the city.

        • My only big question is even if these bases were still accessible to us, the traveler is caged off, and unable to provide us light. How would we be able to guarantee that the bases haven't collapsed because of the Traveler not being able to reach them? The only base maybe excluded from this would be the Vestian Outpost since it is run by the Awoken. But the Iron Temple has guardians who depend on Light...how would they hold up?

        • There has been no mention of Felwinter's Peak yet in D2 but it would be one of the dumbest offensives ever if the Cabal travelled hundreds (?) of light years and only attacked a single guardian base and left them 2 fallback bases (the Peak and the Reef) where they can regroup and re-equip Even if the vault is destroyed, these places will have arsenals of their own with weapons (even if they are not exotics and god-roll legendaries). The Cabal must be pretty stupid to leave them alone

              • Our vault was in the tower. We had transmat hubs that gave us remote access to it in the Reef and Felwinters peak but this isn't where our stuff was kept. I don't know if the Cabal also attacked it, but I doubt it. More likely we will just have no story driven reason to return there anytime soon. On the dev side, D2 was several years into development before they threw together Rise of Iron last minute to make up for the delay of the sequel. I doubt it will be referenced at all.

                • I'll admit, it would be a good stronghold for guardians. However, it wouldn't be too practical for holding all the surviving citizens of the City, due to lack of space and the dangerous path up there. Though the main reason we're not going back there is gameplay. The devs want to give us something new, therefore they're giving us a new social space. Good idea though.

                  • Honestly, the biggest piss off with felwinters peak was that once I reached the top after many failed tries and added frustrations they only reward was a siva cluster. Even something like the chest with materials in vog would've been better
