Who thinks playing strikes using mainly primary weapons will be fun?

I'm not sure playing the game with mostly primary weapons will be very fun in D2. Forgive me if you can't understand my apprehension about this, but I'll still be playing D2 regardless.

  • For those saying they already do this anyways, I wonder how much their choice to do so has already been influenced by special ammo changes made for PVP which also cross over into PVP.... I think an additional appropriate inquiry would be "If you had larger reserves of special ammo, would you still rely on your primary 99.9% of the time?" Because my guess is special ammo changes for PVP that effected access to special ammo in PVE influenced how people play strikes right now, so in many ways, they're already pre-conditioned to rely on their primary more in PVE because of changes to suit PVP. If that were NOT true, I wonder how many people would still answer the same way.

  • I agree. Raiding will screw us over because elemental primary damage won't matter. Destiny 2 can't have this and all that will happen is that we are going to end up with a PVP community and all the PVE players won't be able to have fun. This was made to be a good PVP idea. I'm a PVP player and I support the PVE and PVP community because I personally care about both sides of the game. I just want both sides to be fun where there's a balance in between the amounts of people playing PVP and PVE. Like I don't want it to be a thing where I get matched up against the same people in trials for 3 games in a row. I got matched up against TKO Kandids 3 times in a row but I mean we won all 3 times. The reason is that no one is even playing the game mode so it has to match us up with someone.

      • I use primary weapons a great deal in PvE, which is why I was gratified to see that elemental primaries will be a regular thing in D2. And being able to choose between a hard-hitting close-in weapon and a potent long-range one will be nice too. My primary concern, regarding the weapon change, is the Crucible. Changing special from a part of your loadout to an unreliable power-up has made the Crucible far less fun. And forcing the player to choose between a special or a heavy seems like a further step in the same direction. For that reason, I will play the beta, but I am declining to preorder the game for now.

            • I understand how it might not be fun, but from the gameplay I've seen of The Inverted Spire, it isn't too bad in my opinion. I am just gonna run a HC, High Impact SR and maybe a rocket or sniper.

              I have this thought too, right now with primary special Heavy vs kinetic primary elemental primary power weapons for PvE or PvP it'll feel different, plus too many variety of power weapons in one slot. Not including exotics Right now primary has autos handcannons, scouts and pulses Secondary, snipers, fusions, shotguns and sidearm's Heavy, Rockets, machine guns and swords. Power weapons, snipers, fusions shotguns, Rockets, grenade launcher, swords If you had the option to run two primary's I would like that but to force it and change the loadout I don't like what I've seen.

              • I do it all the time, but fun is a very suggestive sounding word that no one is going to be completely happy with the changes. All the same... we shall see...

              • Too early to tell. From what I have seen of the final strike boss gameplay it seems to cater to the run and gun as opposed to strategic play style. Bullet sponge boss plus predominantly primary game play will extend play time but as for fun,who knows? If I can slightly digress from topic for a moment it seems that this change, despite what spin may be put on it, was made to cater to the MLG, E sport PVP player. That is obvious from the move to 4v4 from 6v6 the latter being a more Casual game mode. I do not care that most streamers and You Tuber are saying how wonderful 4v4 is, they would after all, its their bread and butter. They have a vested interest in selling it to us as much as Bungie do. I really hope that my concerns about the PVE are unfounded we can only wait and see in the Beta.

                • No. Strikes are already the worst part of Destiny (since that nonsense is considered "end game" now) and the ONLY way to keep the repetitive, mindless grinding of strikes interesting is procedurally generated strikes. The raids are literally the only actual end game content we have.

                  • If primary weapons are as weak as they are in PvP, it will be the same experience using them...........a chore. I would much rather have it where I want to use them opposed to forcing me to use them.

                  • I don't think it will be fun at all. as a pve player, i hate this change, because when facing enemies in pve, you NEED the advantage that secondary weapons give you. unless they increase how often power ammo drops to how often secondary ammo drops now, i can't see this new weapon system working in pve. to me it seem like they are catering to pvp players and that is stupid. THE ONLY REASON that they got rid of secondary weapons and put them into a combined power weapon slot is to balance pvp.

                    • Considering I was someone that mainly used my primary on strikes in D1, I honestly have no problem with that. I was also someone that mainly used my primary in PvP, hence why I really did not give two sh*ts about the "special weapon economy" crap people continuously complain about still.

                    • It will get old quickly. Primaries simply aren't supposed to give you the sense of overwhelming firepower. And heavy weapons are supposed to be used sparingly. This is going to be a long-term issue and i hope bungie figures that out before launch.
