No salt. You're basically right. Bungie was unwilling to make the changes to the game necessary to properly balance primary weapons and special weapons. They were determined that the game would play and feel like Halo....but this resulted in a TTK that was too slow for player movement speed, and too slow to properly disadvantage people caught at longer ranges with a shotgun.....or close range with a sniper. The redesign of the Crucible was Bungie's admission of failure. So instead of balancing these weapons by allowing primaries to kill about 25-30% faster.....they are just going to treat these OHK weaposn as short-lived power-ups that dont' require balancing (like heavy weapons currently are).

  • Exactly, by doing this, they can tweak the special economy in PVE, effectively giving us the power we seek, without having imbalance in PVP. In a sense, it's like a reversal of what happened in D1. I recognize that it's not just snipers, and its really all specials vs primary weapons. However, snipers are the best special, as well as augment a style of play that is absolutely counter to Destiny's strongest contributions to competitive multiplayer. You're basically taking a game, where it is possible for us to move and fight like superheroes, and reducing it down to a slow paced, military shooter. I suppose I'm somewhat biased, but at least when shotguns ruled, it gave players an opportunity to express their aggression... The removal of special ammo didn't hurt sniping in the least bit, if anything, snipers benefitted. As much as I wanted for there to be some kind of large team offering, I actually like what they are doing to the crucible, from a gameplay standpoint. If there is going to be parity between PVE and PVP, having the crucible be more competitive from the start, and perhaps reduce instances of power drain. And for those of us, who would like to run around with one hit kill weapons, it would be cool if they juiced the heavy ammo regen for Mayhem! I also hope that they rebuff shotguns, fusion rifles, and sniper rifles to account for a further reduction in special economy. If they are going to be limited, they need to feel real special when you get them!

  • Agreed but that "slow-paced military shooter" (Halo) is what they and their customers wanted. But this does open the door to us getting to be warrior-angels again in pve.

I get what you're saying about Halo being slow paced. However, last week's trials on Frontier, and hell, any 3V3 mode in Destiny, when sniping is the logical choice, plays out more like "Rainbow 6: Siege" than Halo. In Halo, there was substantial advantages to vertical approach, utilizing movement, and map skating. Yes, from a game play standpoint there was a high TTK, but that wasn't the only thing that made you feel like a spartan, it was the floaty jumping and deadly Melee as well.
