Is it possible that the cabal have faced an enemy/being like the traveler before? Or is it possible that they have found a shard of the traveler to study. How would they know how to develop the technology to capture the power that the traveler emitts? It is according to lore one of the most powerful beings in the cosmos,if not the most powerful.
I believe that the Cabal may have actually run into the darkness a handful of times maybe losing some planets or more (depends on how big the cabal empire is). Which is one of the reason why they are interested in the Traveler since it is possibly they could use it.
Or is it possible that they have found a shard of the traveler to study.
I don't think so since if they did then they most likely wouldn't really need to go after the Traveler in the first place. I mean we see a shard of the traveler in the destiny 2 trailer in an area which as far as we know Guardians haven't gone near in decades, maybe even centuries.
. How would they know how to develop the technology to capture the power that the traveler emitts? I mean just look at the 3 subclasses from the taken king and how we get them. They are not light from the traveler but from nature which means light is a natural thing. Shadowstalker- Uses dark energy (or whatever space energy) Stormcaller- Absorbs a massive amount of electricity (1 average lightning bolt is 1 billion joules, now imagine a entire massive storm) Sunbreaker- Literally harnesses solar radiation The shield that the cabal use to trap the Traveler is just design to try and stop any possible sources of energy to get out. Then again every human (and normal sentient being aka not corrupted by darkness) has a spark of light so that could mean that the soul/light is actually a form of spiritual energy.

Edited by indeed: 5/27/2017 11:11:34 PMThe cabal just got tired of us -blam!-ing up their highest ranking commanders time after time, so they studied us, realized that our power to revive, super, e.t.c., comes from the traveler, and like any military power that is outmatched either: 1: take away the enemies advantage 2: take the advantage for yourself

Edited by A Tigerstorm: 5/27/2017 10:21:18 PMAs far as I know, that's not true. The Cabal don't have that kind of power over light and dark like us or the hive. Fallen are maybe. Vex are a possibility. Taken? Oh yeah. But the Cabal are more reliant on Tech, and Tactics. They almost rival the Covenant from Halo. Tons of ships, interesting species, and effective weaponry. Only problem is, the Covenant were lazy with their tactics, they believed dying would speed their holy ascension. The Cabal? THEYLL -blam!- US ALL UP!!! *Clears throat* Sorry. Anyway Gary himself has even said that he wants the Light, simply for more power. He's a warlord, and warlords don't share power with others. As for how they trapped the light, it's possible that after years of recon, and intensive planning, they could've designed that cage.

I'm curious why the cabal seemed interested in finding the vex mind in the inverted spire

Edited by Pellmell54: 5/27/2017 8:59:07 PMCoupla possibilities. Like a few have said, using technology gained from the hive could be it. Also we know that the cabal were studying the vex extensively on Mars, and the vex had also managed to suppress the travelers light in some form, as shown by after you killing the giant black silly putty god them saying Light Returns to the Traveler!. So maybe the Hive, maybe the Vex tech they studied.. or maybe this is all Ghaul. Seems to be obsessed with the traveler, may have studied the places it left behind and what it did, the energy it used and other stuff. He may have been putting this together for quite a long time. Though unfortunately for him, another Primus called dibs on sol system before he could get there. Some sort of code of honor/protocol left him unable to act until the Primus was killed on the Dreadnaught. Lotta other speculation here, but I'll leave off.

They made it up because it's a "fun" story.... They say it's based on hive tech from the dreadnaught but it seems questionable that they got the tech developed that giant machine and flew across the cosmos in a seemingly short period of time compared to how long their expeditionary for was in our solar system with no back up....

The cabal captured and interrogated hive. We know that the hive have the knowledge from that one story mission we did where we found they had a shard of the Traveler. The cabal took that knowledge and obviously improved on it.
