A Sould of Black Fire, chapter 2: To save your soul

--location: Jungles of venus   The lone Warlock walked through the vines and the roots that grew between the towering trees around him. He looked up at the leaves of the mighty trees and stared at the small rays of light that managed to escape through scattered empty gaps, allowing his feet to expertly guide him through the jungle as he walked. The Warlock had walked this path countless times, it was like second nature to him now, to walk to his destination while paying no attention to where he placed his feet along the way.   Suddenly he stopped, tearing his gaze away from the leaves above him he looked forward to see that he was where he wanted to be; his refuge. Before him was a small cave imbedded into the ground with the mouth only slightly visible due to hanging vines and moss, anyone could easily walk by it and think nothing of it. As he was about to take a step forward, to go to the cave he heard the faint purr of a sparrow in the distance.   As the purring of the sparrow’s engine grew louder, the Warlock quickly crouched down; concealing himself in the tall grass and a bush in front of him.   “Ghost,” the Warlock softly whispered, cautious to prevent being heard. “I need a mote of light, now.”   Suddenly, a small white ghost appeared; hovering in front of it’s guardian.   “Now!” the Warlock Urged, still making sure his voice was kept at a low volume.   The ghost nodded and vanished as quickly as it came, under where it was hovering; a single mote of light appeared on the ground. Quickly the Warlock picked it up and held it, getting ready to take away it’s light so it could substitute his for a short while. The Warlock hesitated however,  he stared at the small mote of light in the palm of his hands. It was so warm, so radiant, it pained him to look at such a beautiful sight; knowing that he was about to bring it to an end.   Nevertheless, he pushed those thoughts away. He needed to do what he needed to do. The Warlock took the mote of light in the palm of both his hands and conjured up void energy into both of his hands, slowly sapping the light from the single mote. He grit his teeth as it felt like molten lava started to flow through veins.   Finally he let go of the empty mote, allowing it to fall onto the grassy ground under him. As the mote fell, he did too however. He fell onto all fours as he grit his teeth in pain. There was a burning pain all throughout his body, light in a body filled with only darkness. Finally after what felt like hours of pure agony, the Warlock struggled to his feet and walked to the cave.   He brushed away the vines and hanging moss that covered the mouth of the cave and made his way inside, it was a vast cave; 20 18 feet in length and width, he knew because he measured it in his spare time. Inside of the cave stood a single male Titan in glistening bronze armor with iron banner engravings along it.   “Where have you been!?” the Titan shouted, there was a metallic tone in his voice.   The Warlock sighed as he looked at the Titan, “Out.” he responded while he walked over to a bundle of sown together cloth in a corner of the cave, ignoring the Titan who kept staring at him.   Before he could make it to the bundle of cloth, he was stopped when an outstretched arm blocked his path. He looked over at the Titan.   “Out isn’t an answer,” The Titan stated, now annoyed more than he was curious, “Where were you, really?”   The Warlock let out a long sigh before sitting down onto the cold rock floor. “I went to the Moon to do some patrols, I needed the glimmer so I can buy some stuff to decorate this place some. Like I don’t know- maybe a chair.” he gestured with his hands at the rock floor he was sitting on.   He was surprised at his ability to so easily lie to his brother’s face. He didn’t feel a tinge of guilt or anything from telling the lie, as if the moment he made it up it immediately became a true fact. He stared at the Titan before him who was sitting down on the ground staring at him, trying to study his muscle movements for any signs of lying.   The Titan mumbled softly to himself before speaking. “Fine, you’re not lying.” he said as he got up, offering a hand to the Warlock who was still sitting down on the ground; pondering on about how he felt no guilt in his mind.   The Warlock tour himself out of his mind and looked up at the outstretched hand. He looked at the Titan who was offering the hand and accepted it, letting the Titan help him up to his feet. As their hands touched, the Titan stiffened up as a cold shiver slid into his circuits like tiny snakes at the touch of the Warlock’s hand.   The Warlock saw his tensed up body and immediately understood what had just happened, he sensed his lack of light. Quickly he tour his hand out of the grasp of the Titan.   “Sorry T.S, I just remembered that I needed to go and talk to Xür before he leaves tomorrow!” he shouted before running out of the mouth of the cave.   “Warden wait!” T.S shouted as he ran out of the cave after him, still dumbfounded of what he had just experienced. The Warlock was nowhere in sight, as if he vanished into the wind itself.   As Warden swiftly ran through the jungles of Venus, he couldn’t help but look back at his brother, T.S, who was still calling for him and shouting out into the air. Still he felt no guilt, no remorse for leaving the exo who he called his brother alone. So he kept running, deeper and deeper into the seeminglessly endless jungle.   After a couple of minutes of running, rain started to pour down, making it hard to run as the soil slowly became softer and slippery.   Warden let out a short shout of surprise as his body fell to the ground, his foot burrowed into a small patch of mud, which consequently made him slip. Suddenly a loud booming sound filled the atmosphere as thunder and lightning started to erupt within the clouds above him while the rain poured down harder.   Quickly Warden scrambled to his feet, frantically looking for a place to seek shelter. His eyes came across a small, tiny cave; just big enough for two people or so. Immediately he darted into the small cave. It was cold in the cave, but he didn’t mind, he was used to the cold; but at least it was dry.   He stared out into the raging storm as the trees in front of the cave started to sway violently with the wind. He drew in his knees to his chest and wrapped his arms around them while still watching the violent storm rage on outside. He began to rock back and forth as his eyelids slowly became heavy.   Warden started to softly sing to himself, to distract his mind from the chaos of the world outside; it was a song from long in the past he had once heard in the tower pub. He and his brother would dance to it like idiots all the time. Softly he sung it to himself, allowing memories of the past keep him company in the cold world he lived in..   I met a wise man on a mountaintop And then I asked him "what's the secret pop?" The people down below we all wanna know, how to play the game of life before we got to go"   Warden softly chuckled as the memories flooded his mind. Good memories of he and his brother. Memories long since forgotten until now. He was halfway through the song now as his eyelids became so heavy he couldn’t keep them open any longer and his mind started to enter the darkness of sleep.   You got to swing what you got to save you soul Swing what you got before it gets old When troubles get around Don't stop to frown   “Swing what you got to save your soul…” Warden softly mumbled as the darkness of sleep consumed his mind.
