I have posted this elsewhere but it hasn't gotten much attention and it is relevant to the original post, consider this:
I was just thinking about Destiny 2's weapons system and how often in Destiny you kind of needed (or it was very helpful to have) full special and heavy ammo when going into boss battles. To my understanding, it was the opinion of the developers that primaries were underused in Destiny 1 so I think this is where the weapon change is coming from. It seems to me that this is a PvP issue where pretty much nobody ran a primary if they had special ammo, which, fair enough. It does make the game more based on shooting and movement skill if everyone is using primaries (hence, two primaries and a heavy). However, I don't think this was really an issue in PvE, I don't think anyone was ever like, "damn, I really wish that everyone had to use primaries more, could you guys put away your Gally's and Spindles please?"
I wonder if it would be possible for Bungie to have separate loadouts for PvE and PvP. So for a PvP loadout use the new system of two primaries and one heavy/special slot. Then, for PvE, allow for the old primary, special, and heavy slots. This would allow for players to have special and heavy for more epic boss battles in PvE while putting the focus on primary gun play in PvP. Who wants to sit and spam a boss with a scout rifle after they shoot their 3 rockets when you could make it so the boss takes more damage to kill, but you have a sniper and a rocket still? This would also force people to work on their gun play in PvP by making them equip two primaries and having limited access to power ammo. To make it clear, I'm not asking for separate weapon stats for PvE and PvP, I do like that I can take a gun into a raid and then to a crucible match and have it behave exactly the same.
I understand this would maybe not make it into the game at launch, but maybe it's something to consider for future updates if feedback on the new weapons system is not good from PvE players.
F.Y.I. - I'm not complaining about the new weapons system as I have no idea how the new weapons work for sure or what the ammo economy will be like, I just thought it may give the best of both worlds for PvE and PvP players if there were different loadouts for each.
